if you take off the y bridge there is one bolt in right hand coner of the opening on the manifold that bolts the manifold to the head. That was the one he said was leaking. He took those out an put pipe dope on them and stuck them back in. Does this sound like a fix to yall?

No, there should be no coolant behind any intake manifold bolts. Lets go in the way back machine and find out why you had the motor torn down in the first place? Was it this same coolant problem? Is it the same cylinder that fills with coolant?

I was leaking coolant on the outside (headgasket) running down the block from the driver side head. I got a quote for $4,700 just for headgasket replacement, this guy said he would rebuild the whole engine for $5,000. He rebuilt my tranny and it was awesome so i figured he was good for his word and was doing me a favor. Well we tore it down and could tell where the leak was to the outside (not inside). Got it all put back together and it hydrolocked. Its not just one cylinder its two on each side. Depends on which way its leaning.

is there any coolant getting in your oil?

Sounds to me like a cracked head

did he have your heads done or exchange?

Theres a good pull, are those your original heads? Hmmm. 2 cylinders both sides....always the same 2? and what do you mean by "which way it leans" That would mean both heads have problems. Do you know what letter grade head gaskets were used? Motor is a stock build?

I have a set of stock non-egr LB7 heads and I just went thru all the intake bolts-not one of them could get coolant in them they are all blind holes-I looked all over them and can not see a way for it to even get to them:confused: even going thru the exhaust valve how would it get to the intake-it gets dumped out the downpipe. I have seen on gassers where a crack will allow it to fill up the intake but it would be via the valves. Find someone with a smoke machine and hook it up to the cooling system after you drain the coolant. You may have to take off at least the intercooler outlet tube to see smoke in the intake. Or, you could remove the intake all together and pressure it up with coolant in it to see where its coming from. My guess is going to be cracks in coolant chambers around the intake valves.
Very common on aluminum heads for years, not sure about diesels but very common on gas engines. The only way to find them is to remove the heads, build plates or rubber plugs and pressure it up with an air hose per each cylinder. If you look at how the heads are designed I cannot even see any water passeges near the intake manifolds at all

Well guys I'm right back in the mix. Ever since he did the rebuild I was slowly loosing coolant, and here latley I have been adding almost a gallon of oil a month. Then today it finally did it! I showed up at my parents for mothers day and got in the truck to leave and clunk HYDROLOCKED!

Having been part of the early days of this thread i feel compelled to share.....
We got a guys truck in here last week who was experiencing the same symptoms as our friend hydro locking, loosing coolant, etc. I had found the coolant entering the cylinders from the intake manifold area. Well after completely diagnosing this truck and inventing a few tests of my own. I removed the head to have it inspected and they found cracks under the valve seat that led into the intake valve bowl area on the intake side. This would be where our coolant was entering the intake. The customer had told us he over heated the shot out of it about a year ago, so we had that piece of info to go on also. I was able to isolate it to one side so Redhoss02 I think you need to get someone to get a fine tooth comb and go over your head or heads looking for cracks. Hope this helps a little.
