Piecing together an s400 kit

Hey guys. Just wondering what the bare bones necessities are for putting a s472 in my truck. I know I'll need a pedestal and down pipe. Can I reuse my factory IC pipes for now? What about the oil/coolant lines? And intake. Any way to get the s&b to fit right? Or do I have to order an intake. Just asking because personally to me 2 grand for a few pipes and a pedestal seems a bit $$$ but just my opinion.

I am going to do the same shortly when I finally decide on a turbo, I am going to use the fleece install kit, ppe pedestal and a 2" pedestal spacer, profab y bridge and build my own down pipe.

I was looking at the wherli kits. If I get a full kit that's probably the route I'm going but I'd really like to be able to get a 72 on there for less than 3500-4K. Might not be possible but hey worth a shot. Do you have to change the y bridge for an s400?

The lb7 style bridge works well with a single s400. I built a kit super cheap but I made a pedastal and intake and downpipe and modified the top of the hot side factory ic pipe, lb7 has a 3 inch boost tubes they just neck down. I just cut the top off and welded a 3 inch prebent and bead rolled aluminum 90 back to the top of it.you will also need an oil feed and drain line which will be roughly 200 I think.

I just cut the top off and welded a 3 inch prebent and bead rolled aluminum 90 back to the top of it.you will also need an oil feed and drain line which will be roughly 200 I think.

Awesome this is exactly what I was looking for. So ultimately the parts I'll need are a modified hot side pipe for a 3" inlet, pedestal, intake, oil feed and drain line, And down pipe. Correct?

Does anyone sell a reasonably priced lb7 style y bridge with LBZ flanges?

Yes if your running a vband compressor cover you will need a clamp and a vband for the hot side pipe. Also I did a 4 inch down pipe and massaged it in. That required cutting the reducer off of the inlet of my 4 inch exhaust and I did a vband connection there as well. You will need a maf sensor bung for the intake as well and make sure you put it in the right way.

Can you explain what exactly making your own down pipe involves? I keep hearing people doing this but haven't been able to wrap my head around it.

Order a vband for the borg exhaust housing, I ordered a 4 inch 90° bend welded the vband to it and basically added a straight 4 inch pipe that but I didn't have a dipstick to clear because mines a manual trans. Then tie it into the exhaust with another vband. I have a thread about my build somewhere.

Wehrli kits use 3.5 downpipe and they fit nice. The ats 4" downpipes were flattened and tweaked here & there to clear everything. Installation with the engine in the truck can be difficult. If you ever have the engine out, it's worth it to give the firewall a few love taps with a rubber mallet or dead blow plastic hammer

Thanks guys. So be honest. Is the kit worth buying?

I've never bought a kit but I'm cheap, after building my kit, it's just crazy to think what they are asking for this stuff. Would be way faster and easier obviously with a kit. My truck was down for head gaskets anyway so it was just a bit longer to do that to. Just depends how much time you have to mess with it.
