What is the purpose of the pcv valves?

Ok, I know what they do however on my other truck and the jeep and my welder there is no valve as far as I know.

All of my other engines seem to breathe much more vapor than the duramax enough so that when stopped at a light people will point to my wife and tell her that her engine is on fire. She has as much fun with that as she does when filling up and people run up and tell her that she is putting diesel in her jeep.

Should I gut the pcv valves so I have more flow?

Will this help my oil stay cleaner longer?

I will probably try this and see.

I did the reroute 30,000 ago but one side does not produce very much vapor and the end of the hose is still basically clean and the other side has some lite buildup. I have been contemplating drilling the oil cap and adding another vapor hose there but if I remove the pcv valves this should not be necessary, correct?

Or maybe I am full of beans.

thanks for any input.

Jim you should be happy that you dont have a lot coming out of there

It should increase when your driving and you just dont see it

All that the valve is is a small spring that acts as a checkvalve

If I was you I wouldnt worrie JMHO

thank you
I am sure that I am overthinking it. I am just accustomed to more vapor.

How much pressure is needed to overcome the check valves?

In your opinion would it hurt anything if I remove them just to satisfy my own curiosity? (I understand that you would not do this)

I actually did this on my lb7...IIRC it is 0.2psi to open the valve. I read it in the GM specs but can quite remember:eek:

you can do it in about 5 minutes, If you dont strip the screws that hold it in there.
