Well think of it this way... The unit is $500.00. Quite expensive. BUT... If it helps you avoid 2 tickets, BAM. It paid for its self. It alerts you for speed traps, x band, k band, ka band, red light cameras and speed cameras.

I bought it for a road trip from tx to San Diego with the intentions of returning it after the trip. After the thing saved me and my road trip buddy from numerous run ins with the law, I decided to keep it. It's saved me easily over $1500 in tickets in the past year.

Not to mention the higher cost of Ins. for two years!!

The new lasers scare the chit out of me though.. Mine doesnt see them till im right on them.. Time for a new one I guess!

I would def recommend this one. It detects the lasers. I don't know about the newest shit hot laser guns that the cops may have now... But it has picked them up before. I know it for a fact bc the sound it makes for a laser is different thAn all the others. Kinda caught me off guard.

Since I bought it in November of 2010.. I've only gotten one speeding ticket. It's bc the cop was right behind me and I couldn't see him through my tint. I nailed it with him directly behind me like an idiot

I borrowed an 8500 from a buddy to drive from Vegas to northern nv and back over the holidays. Going up and back I blew past a few sheriffs and other small town cops totally hauling balls. Radar never blipped or went off, didn't get pulled over but thought the damn thing was broken and I just got lucky. Then rolling back into Vegas hauling ass again the radar finally went off and I slowed down and there he was chillin in the median. I think they work great and am looking at buying my own.

I have two customers that have K40's installed on their vehicles. They are amazing. I am in awe of how well they work and they even guarantee you won't get a ticket. They will pay the bill if you get one. A RL360 and a Defuser are on my list. I was on a test drive and it saved my ass.....like go to jail saved my ass! I want one.:thumb:

My gmc has a slick k40 in it. Sensors on both bumpers leds in the dash city and highway mode. Left it in highway mode once and it goes bananas near automatic doors. It also picks up the sensors on top of the street signals that the fire department uses if its in city mode. Cant say I havent gotten a ticket in in tho I dont speed much more than 10 over.

I've had a Beltronics STI Driver for a while, it has been a great detector and is still saving my ass today.

Do I need to upgrade to something new that can detect all the latest gadgets?

Buying false hope huh? Well... I guess getting me out of over $1500 in tickets is false hope.

The escort also detects laser. So that's no big deal either. I'm telling you man, the thing is bad ass. It's alerted me of cops sitting on the other side of an overpass looking for people. Can't even see him untill your at the top of the bridge.

I have a Radar/Laser detector myself hardwired in my truck. I bought a Valentine I some years ago. Works great and has saved me and also gotten me a ticket. Eventually they all will as IMO there is n fool proof detector. Although I'd love to hear more about that K40 that will pay your tickets! Now if it's a jammer not a detector I'd have to see some real testing to believe it. I'm skeptical as years ago I bought into I believe it was Rocky Mountain (?) Jammer and it proved to be worthless.

Anyway I'm not against Radar detectors I just don't believe in it will save you from NEVER getting a ticket. With todays instant on Radar and Laser unless your in the path of someone else getting speed checked and instead your the one ,there is no doubt your going to get nailed.

Thats how these things work . When it comes to fixed radar sure no doubt they are the bomb but instant on? Forgetaboutit if your the target! Thats all I'm saying ask any cop they'll tell you. If your the target coming over a nole or around a corner by the time you see them your already caught. Thats where I say false hope. And to be honest with you any cheap detector with a decent range will do the same as big dollar ones.

No doubt they are worth having.

But I agree I own a detector and for the most part it will save you "some" tickets but not all of them. Having one doesn't mean you can speed and not worry about it thats for-sure. Really sucks when the thing lights up like a Christmas tree bells go off and the cop points at you to pull over! That sucks. :(

I'm not sold on the Jammer technology. If they work usually they are big dollars. Unless things have changed I haven't done any research on them in years.

I have the 9500ix too..saves me almost every time I drive on the highway since I am a speed demon.. This model tells u about red light camera signals and lots other stuff.. We have named ours Susan cause I think she is part of the family..lmao.. You can also take it to the computer and get updates and u can store in check points and cop spots. Saves money on them tickets.. Oh it scares the shit out of u when a cop lasers u..the laser shows ur speed like someone else said.

I have the redline with the laser diffuser. I played cop (reserve force) for a while and have gotten a few people before, so I have some clue what I'm talking about. First off you have to be smart about speeding, if some 16 year old girl pulls out in front of you then can measure your skid marks and know within a few mph of what you were doing, and they will hang you if you had excessive speed. That and you have to live with it.
Now with that being said, radar is a broad sweep, isn't really aimed much, and you are either counting on the cop just leaving it on, or caching extra radiation from him hitting the car in front of you. If it is an empty road and you are the first person along the way, well you are screwed. I used to sit with the handheld radar pointed down and pop cars coming over hills. Now with a lighdar it is like a sniper rifle. I used to have fun and hide somewhere and "snipe" cars. lighdar can't work in fog, but most of the time you will not pick it up from the car in front of you. Laser diffusers are legal but radar jammers are not. And no, I wasn’t a douche and would only write tickets for 15+ over unless the person talked themselves into it.

With 50+ tickets in 6 yrs, I did something better..... slowed the f**k down. It works, been keeping the tickets at bay for a while now:D

Driving something for work all day that weighs 7000lbs and has 104.5 hp helps too:rofl:

I used to run them all the time, then kept getting tickets.....then enough tickets racked up and voila.....license suspended for 3 months....

That was the point when I took the damn thing out and just slowed down slightly....

I think having the radar detector gave me a false sense of security so I sped alot faster....without it, trust me I still speed but not to close to the extreme as what I did.

What can this detector smell the cops? :roflmao:

Hate to tell you ,you got lucky. In today's world with instant on technology radar and laser those cops were probably just sitting there with their fixed units on ,seen it many times. Ya it warned you but unless it can smell a cop car your buying false hope! You'll never be invisible to the law.

Not always the case but my 8500 has alerted me lots and saved my ass more times than I can count. Most of the local Sheriff's roll with the radar on all the time unless they are sitting on the side of the hwy with laser.
But if a cop is burning towards you spot hitting cars as they come over the horizon, sometimes the radar detector will pick one of those up long before you see him or he is targeting you. Gives you time to slow down before he hits you. Had it happen countless times. In a line of sight situation where your the only vehicle, you haven't got a chance though.
