p0742 and surges when the tc isnt locked

heres some history toasted my trans and so i rebuilt another one and put it in. its a 6 speed lbz trans i did the flat spot tc valve mod and now its doing this. i did reuse the torque converter its a suncoast 1058 so im thinking i fried the converter any thing i check before i spend money on a converter? also worth mentioning when u put it in tow/haul it pretty much goes away and if you put it in manuel mode and towhaul it dont do it any ideas?

did you have that converter inspected/cleaned before reusing? did you properly clean the trans coolers before reinstall?

No I did not have the converter inspected but I flushed the lines and cooler and I drained and refilled the converter

P0742 indicates the converter clutch is not releasing and it's dragging. Could be draggy converter flow valve or you installed it backwards. Plugged cooler will cause it as well as a bad converter. Too long of a converter mounting bolt will dimple the billet cover and cause the clutch to drag.

thanks mike thats some good info i used the bolts that suncoast sent for the converter so im confident thats not the issue! one the converter valve im pretty sure i installed it how i took it out however now im second guessing myself i put the flat spotted end in first is that correct?

thanks mike thats some good info i think that is my problem i think i put the flat spotted end in first its posta be toward the spring right? not sure what i was thinking...
