Thanks for the explanation juddski88. Again, I wasn't trying to be an asshole or anything, I'm trying to figure out what these codes are or and have been told a bunch of different solutions

The new guy I took it to is supposed to call back today on the real news for the truck (he got the data off of it after a test drive.) He said with the way it drives and the fact that the turbo is doing what it's supposed to, it's a very minimal problem. But he told most likely, it just needs a little cleaning aside. And like I said, he apparently has some "old school method" to clear it out without ripping into it.. I don't know, we shall see!:D

See if you can get info on what he does to clean it because I have the same problem and I haven't seen a way to do it without removing the turbo and disassembling it, cleaning the vanes and reinstalling. Which I"m really not interested in doing, I'm too damn old to be leaning over the engine for a few hours like that.

Asked the guy today exactly what they do. He said basically, they'll run the truck and get the turbo hot, remove/clean the vane solenoid, and then they use the turbo to run some kind of a chemical through it that will clean it all out.
How's he going to remove the solenoid when the EGR cooler is in the way? I can't even get the hold down bolt off mine due to the cooler in the way.

He told me they are going to be running the truck on a dyno in the proces, so they are literally using the turbo to run that chemical through it. When he does do it I'll let you know how it went and exactly how he did everything. It's going to be a while though because right now I need the truck. He did tell me though that nothing is causing any harm and I'd be fine running the truck as it is, but I want the damn thing right.

Does your truck feel like it has loss of power/the turbo not whistling or is it running normal?

Been a while, been using the truck for work so no time to get it into the shop.

Taking it in the morning! He's charging me $350 and told me it will clean it right out no problem, or money back.We shall see!!!

Okay guys, update-

Got a call from the shop this morning after they did the cleaning.. to make a longer story shorter, it was still throwing the code after the clean. So they took the whole turbo off to find out what the problem is. They found the unison ring broken in half and all the vanes were completely frozen. Couldn't knock them a lose no matter what you did. They told me new turbo..

I'm out of town. They called again. They said they have a Duramax stock turbo that a guy got rid of off of his 2006 to upgrade to a bigger turbo. The stock turbo still works perfect, and they are taking it apart tomorrow to make sure it's 100% condition then installing it on my truck no extra charge. To top that off, for an extra $150 they are deleting my EGR (what caused the problem in the first place.) So I was paying $350 for the clean, but since it didn't work they aren't charging me. Instead, I'm getting a fresh turbo installed and EGR delete do $250... I couldn't be happier right now......

He told me the main thing is, whoever owned it before grandpa drove it and after 196k miles all that carbon build up just killed it

You have to get on it every so often to blow out the carbon and exercise the viens. But carbon is only one part of it. Rust and pitting on metal can be another part. The cleaning they are offering is most likely pulling the down pipe and spraying cleaner up and into the turbine/viens. Then they move the viens manually. Problem is the cleaner can go down the up pipes and into the heads. It will put a band aid on the problem but not fix it. Cleaning the trubo isn't hard once it's off. The hard part is getting it off.

I have pics of the vanes and unison ring the shop sent me. I'll post them when i get home back in town. New turbo/EGR delete is starting tomorrow and the truck should be ready.

I'll tell y'all the weirdest thing though. I've had the codes since I've got the truck at 178k miles, so the ring was broken that whole time and the vanes were frozen up. However, the truck hauled ASS and the turbo was putting out full 23psi. The shop even told me that they had no clue how the truck was running so damn good with that stuff messed up. But he did tell me, with that new turbo/EGR delete, the truck will snatch a bigger knot in your ass when you get on it
