Does anyone know if there is a way to turn off overdrive on an allison 5-speed in an 01? At lower speeds towing it seems to want to "hunt" a lot and at times I am wishing I could lock it out of overdrive somehow but didn't know if it was possible or not. Help?? :dontknow:

It's fairly easy to do. In tow haul you still find it hunting with higher shift points? In Tow Haul I believe it won't get into over drive until almost or at 60 MPH?

This makes me wonder if OD lock out will help you.

That's about where mine shifts to 5th with the 01 OS (61 or 62 actually).

Exactly, but when towing my camper on uphill grades it shifts in and out before it makes the grade. Like on say a fairly steep grade around 1/2 mile long it will shift down, then as soon as it picks up speed it shifts back up, then back down again because we're still in the midst of the grade. On really hilly roads I'd like it to remain in 4th so it's not shifting all the time. You don't think the lockout would help this?? If not I won't bother with it.

Thanks for the better explanation when you said LOW speeds I thought like below 45 MPH! So if 60 MPH is low you must be a rocket man! :D

Yes I think that ,in this case,it will hold 4'th for you and then you can select OD when you want. Lessor grades, flat land etc etc you can just let it roll, rocket man. :)

If you have efi live I have tune that will work for you. It uses the tow/haul button to turn the overdrive off so anytime you push the t/h and your in tow haul mode the overdrive is off and when you get to your desired speed you just hit the button again and it shifts into fifth. Then whenyou get ready to slow down hit the button and it shifts back into fourth and so on shifts through the rest of the gears just like normal. Works excellent!
