Over kill or not????

I am wondering if I might have jumped the gun a bit. I ordered my pistons from PPE Mahle Motorsport 16.5 .020" over size. Now here is my question my block that I am using for the build is very low mileage, I have not measured the bores but if they are all with in factory spec is the there any reason I shouldn't sell my pistons and buy standard bore size pistons? Would a built motor need different clearances then a stock motor? I am doing a full build and have plans on making 1000hp with motor. Thanks for the help

if the cylinders are good stock bore would work... considering you already have .020 overs i would run them

That's a good point. I am having a hard time finding a machine shop even some what close to me that has a torque plate for a duramax. I have talked to a few people that have got there motors bored without a torque plate. Would it be worth taking the risk?

When they machine the block at the factory they use a torque plate. They are about $600 to buy from what I see online

That's a problem the problem, I live in Ontario Canada and I can't find any builder around here that have much experience building a duramax. Might have to take a trip to Michigan

Find a big machine shop that has one. Call them up and see if they will rent it to you. I know there are some shops that will charge you what a new one costs, and when they get it back undamaged they will refund you most of the cost.

definitely make sure a torque plate is used and don't worry about using .020 over slugs.
most shops tend to bore over, especially for high horse power builds so they can get the bore PERFECT in every respect, least that's what I've been told.

Does any one know, If piston to cylinder wall tolerances are different for a high hp build compard to a stock bulid?
