Based off tests i saw i decided to use optilube xpd. Was adding an 8 oz bottle every 3/4 of a tank. I usally fill up at 1/4. I now am trying the summer, it calls for less than the xpd to be added. How often do you guys use additives in fuel. Is every tank unnecesary?

Oh and i figure based off inatruction for xpd 9 oz for a tank it says 5 oz for 20 gal 10 fpr 40. So is my strategy of 8 every 3/4 ok?

There was a thread on DieselPlace where additive use on the 2011+ trucks actually appears to increase regen frequency (thereby decreasing fuel mileage).

I used to run additive in my 2003 when the fuel pressure regulator was flaking out, and it helped with that somewhat. Now with a new CP3 and injectors, I have run with and without additive to see the difference, and I can tell no difference in mileage, smoke, or power output. I rarely throw any additive in anymore, since the new CP3 seems to handle the latest diesel formulation just fine.

In my opinion, spending the money to add more/better fuel filtration will do more good than an additive.

Edit: Oh, and I wouldn't run two stroke oil, even ashless, on a truck with a DPF. "Ashless" two stroke oil is only ashless by two stroke standards, and will directly contribute to plugging the DPF, causing a regen you wouldn't otherwise need.

your over treating the tank to begin with. your truck looks like a shortbed, so that's mean its like a 26 gal tank?

if you fill around 1/4 that is approximately 20 gallons.

1 8 oz bottle of XPD treats 32 gallon.
1 8 oz bottle of summer+ treats 320 gallons. so it takes 1/10 the amount of summer formula.

so filling at 1/4 tank- 5 oz XPD or .5 oz summer+

I dont run snake oils. use to do a quart of 2 stroke oil in the tank every other fill up but since my fuel cooler, i have not ran any and the truck runs better than it did with the oil added.

OP, your truck being an 2016, i wouldnt run any additive and would make up a fuel cooler instead being you wont have one

Every time I have ran optilube, I would get fuel pressure regulator performance codes. Stopped using optilube and the codes go away.

I ran the XDP stuff for years. I bought a case thinking it was Optilube, lol. Now that I ran out (every single tank for 90k, with perfect balance rates), I bought Optilube summer. I use 2oz per fill up and I have no complaints.

OK thanks for the information. Looks like I was overzealous and can cut back. The reason I am running the additive is for injector life. It is my understanding the ultra low sulfur does not provide enough lube for injectors. Lift pump is going on Monday, Fass 95

I've never ran any additives and I have 168k miles on my lml with perfect balance rates still lol

I will put in a qt of 2 stroke when I remember to, which isnt often. Otherwise I dont run any additives.

Hot shot secret every other tank in my 300k lb7 on 2nd injector set. Runs great but the haze is slowly catching up with me and i already have a pump and injectors just saving up to buy gaskets and or pay a guy to do it for me

I run the grey bottle of Power Service at every fill up. I get maybe 1/2 mpg with it. I use it mainly for peace of mind for my injectors. I now have 452,000 miles on them and they are still running fine. I tried the expensive Holeshot stuff and holy cow my truck loves that stuff. 2 mpg better while towing and it felt like it had a little more power, but that stuff is too expensive to run often plus the bottle says use only once every 6 months.

On an LML, two stroke is bad. On older style machines, it's ok, and can help, but the newer injectors don't like it. Stick to a good additive.

make sure you weed out those that are NOT talking about an LML/LMM with emission equipment still in tact. i would at no point run 2 stroke oil or anything else that will add more smoke to the engine to cause the truck to regen more

More for peace of mind, but I treat every tank. Before my LMM, I had a 2015 LML for a few weeks. The CP4 thing scared me enough to think I should treat every tank. We also don't have commercially available bio in my area. I use the approx recommended concentration on the back of the bottle. It usually equates to I pour about half a bottle of stanadyne in per tank.

I started with stanadyne performance deposit formula, then 4 weeks of regular performance. No issues, no idea if it ran better cuz I did that from tank #1. Currently still using stanadyne each tank

Switched to opti-lube when I read the spicer report. I didn't notice any improvement, but my wallet was lighter so I couldn't see why paying more is better for the same-ish product

When I can't find stanadyne, I will use PS gray bottle. The truck runs fine, but noticeably rougher and more exhaust smell at idle.

All that is subjective... :)
