while i am the first to admit that i dont know even close to everything , and also try to base what info i give out on what i have experienced for my self and have seen on my truck . there is a heated thread on DP with a few guys about the use of blankets for stainless tube headers like mine .


the blankets have worked great in getting rid of the excessive under hood temps i saw after the install they are even lower now than before with the stock manifolds . i have seen no draw backs to them other than an extra 10-20 secs idleing to get the pyro reading to 350 before shutting the truck down wich i expected because the exhaust flow has to cool the tubes down and pump the heat out the exhaust .

The only downside I can see to blankets is that in a worse case senario they could cause so much heat to be held in that the up-pipes could melt.

We put header wrap on my buddies 7.3 pulling truck and it melted both up-pipes but then again he is running alot more fuel

I would think to protect what is on the other side of the shield. Different than wrapping to keep heat in the exhaust.

Keeping the heat in the headers so it gets out the exhaust instead of under the hood would be great. If it causes header/up pipe failure then you have to weigh the cost versus the benefit. I plan on doing the same thing to my system.

You'll never convince them of what the real world testing shows...they know everything and you're wrong. End of discussion.

I've got close to 20K on Levi's blankets....zero issues and I have nothing but good things to say about them.

Like Rich says. Real world testing means far more than I made a bunch of phone calls. I am all for the blankets. Keep the heat where it can do something for your or else it is just wasted energy.

Eh...you WANT the exhaust heat to stay in the exhaust. Extra heat > speeds up exhaust flow > more energy thru the turbo > more power + the FREE extra power you make when all teh other engine components stay cooler and operate more efficiently. Hell, Im no engineer and I understand it. :rolleyes: Duh.


Trent, You're in the right, but sometimes you can get ahold of someone who cant see the forest for the trees. Dont sweat it...just stop bashing your head against their "wall".

I posted. Might fire a few people up with my post but It's getting tiresome defending my position against so called "professionals" backed by "professionals" with years of experience with heat blankets and testing, with nothing but hate and discontent for something they know nothing about. It's ridiculous. Sorry, rant over.

I guess some people are just so ridiculously stubborn and so blinded by what they believe that they cant even take a moment to think about what other people say. Even though your explanations are clear as day. Its easier said than done but i wouldn't worry about him. Most people will have enough common sense disregard his posts and believe the people with actual real world experiences. And someday if i feel the need has risen i would buy blankets and thanks to guys like you Trent, i know how they perform.
