Old vs new Allison 1000

Friend has an older 2003 Kodiak and needs a transmission I happen to have one out of my 07 we are wondering what it would take to make the newer one work. One difference we found was the NSBU is on the shifter cable and mine is not.

You would have to swap the manual shift shaft, nsbu onto the newer trans, valve body, and internal trans harness.

wouldnt the 03 be a 5 speed and the 07 be a 6 speed?

They are the same trans, just different parts listed above.
