So please dont give me too much hell because I was told it would be fine and taking the trans out was a waste of time. Truck is a 2006 LBZ, bought as a project.

I recently replaced my U joints, and transfer case. Driveshaft was balanced at the same time. Here are my current codes: PO700, PO762, P2771.

Im worried because upon initial takeoff (Shift to D), the truck moves fine and then hits a "wall" HARD! And makes a violent noise. Almost everytime and after that it seems to drive fine until you take it out of drive again.

I would suspect U joints or rearend but im afraid it may have to do with my screwing with the extension housing? If so is it maybe salvageable?? Im more than willing to pull the tranny to save it.

Other than that the truck seems to drive normal enough, couldnt get it to shift into 6th gear the other day also...

I have yet to pull the pan to check for metal shavings but unless yall say otherwise, this is my next course of action.

ya dun f*cked up A-A-ron, pretty much all there is.

do a search on here about replacing the extension housing. You never do it with the trans in the truck.

pull the pan, show us all the pretty parts in the pan, then pull the trans and take it to someone who know how to work on these (not the guy who told you to pull the housing in the truck)

More or less what Im expecting unfortunately, I'll probably pull it later today. Shop work isn't in the budget so it's a DIY effort till she's down the road...

General consensus is that a stock rebuild isn't worth it? I may just pick up a used trans if I have to.

Yeah putting the extension housing on was a b*tch and I was extremely careful.. ugh wish I found these forums earlier.

So, aside from the trans feeling like it's hitting a wall violently and making a nasty noise, and not shifting into 6th gear; it drives pretty good?

Thats correct, Ive only drove it maybe 30 miles since installing transfer case/drive line. Seems fine besides those issues.

And to clarify when I say violent noise I mean a clunk or bang, not a grinding. Still can be very loud, also my truck has the single piece driveshaft.

this isnt a simple fix nor is rebuilding one simple for someone who knows nothing about the trans. if you get it back together and it works correctly for another 100k, it will be a miracle.

you are better off buying a used trans and taking your chances with that

Who told you pulling the trans was not necessary and a waste of time?

Just some local mechanic who's usually given pretty decent advice before. But he certainly must not specialize in Allison transmissions. Now im not blaming him because i still should've researched more.

I just want to get this truck on the road, so Im just gonna need to find the easiest/most effective solution to my current problems.

Whether thats a rebuild or a decently priced used trans. I have plenty of tools and ambition to fix whatever I **** up, so thats a non issue. Even though I agree with you Chevy1925, used would likely be easier and more cost effective.

Minor details. Don't sweat the small stuff :spit:

Well really the whole point of this post was to see if what Im experiencing is typical of a transmission f*cked up by incorrectly installing the extension housing.

I dont really know if the noise is coming from the transmission although it seems likely based on the circumstances.
