I've been wantIng to add a cooler to mine as it gets pretty warm empty.

But right at that mileage where it needs this and that and this and that.

Hopefully my front end will be 100% next days off and I can get other things knocked out.

240° oil temp is enough to drop pressure below oem recommend ranges.. with stock oil pump. Which is 18@ idle and 42@1800rpm.
This is 245° oil temp at idle with HV meling316 pump

260* still nets you 50+ psi at 2600 rpm. thats not "low pressure" concidering what it could be. beyond 260, oil pressure starts to drop drastically. between 240-260, there is a 5-10psi difference at max.

when you start pushing over 260* oil temp, your coolant temp will be 230-240* and you will be backing out of it anyhow. i have many miles on this engine with oil temps at 260*. seeing that on hills in the summer is not a rare site. id love to get them better but 260* oil temps to phase me. as ive always said before, off road cars in both stock engines and built engines see 260* constant for hours at a time. you should see the 350* trans temps the class one cars see and internals hold up in them

I ran the killerbee oil cooler and went from 260+ to a highest if 225 oil Temps towing 12k lbs.

Too bad he is of questionable character to just purchase the oil cooler only and buy the remaining parts elsewhere...:thumb: I asked him awhile back if he would order one for me and I would come by in person and pay cash, he told me no...

not sure on that. I will take a look. I was thinking about this sandwich plate here: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ear-503erl. little cheaper than the mushimoto one and it still has a thermostat in it. What about the fact that its only -10 AN? I cant seem to find one that is 12AN.

needs to be -12an. you dont want that being your restriction in the oil supply.

There have been tons of people post in various threads saying they use that exact one he posted and work just fine. Find one that is -12 that is readily available I haven't seen one yet.

I did all this oil cooler stuff back in early 2012 and I just made a new email and had a friend meet him and pick up the cooler for me. :thumb:

so as of now, I think i'm going to run this sandwich plate: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ear-503erl. I have been doing some research and It looks like nobody has really had any problems running -10AN. I'm still going to run all -12AN fittings and hoses. This cooler If i can find a decent place to put it: https://m.summitracing.com/parts/der-15876. I'm also going to try and run The fan off of some sort of temp sensor switch so the fan automatically kicks on past say 200 or 225 or something like that.

I know where they are readily available from a mfg, same place killer bee gets his. I'll get the info tomorrow.

I run -10 adding the 2 coolers increased pressure drop between pump and #2 main from 8 to 10psi.. considering there is 3 mains bleeding pressure off before #2.. im not worried about it
This is what I'd buy

I just find it ironic that 20* in temp difference is an issue for you but running a smaller adapter plate to the cooler is ok lmao

You guys can do it, I certainly wouldn't.

I am one of the many people running this adapter plate. Never have any problems with oil pressure.

I even cheaped out on the cooler, and run this: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-70274

So far the engine seems happy, but I don't tow as often as some on here. I did break in the engine by towing 15k lbs up a 6% grade repeatedly until I was satisfied it was good and broken in :woott:

The Earl's sammich plate that was linked is what super diesel used so I think it's just fine, super diesel said to use the -12 an fittings because the holes in the plate are already 3/4" which is -12 equivilant isnt it...
