Ibget n oil Temps from the oil gallery on the block. That should be as accurate as you can get when it comes to what the parts actually see.

Lower port is still good for oil pressure right? I have the pressure sender for my Kennedy pumps in the upper port, but if I end up doing an oil temp gauge I'll need to move it. Lower port would be the closest it looks like.

Didn't know they had the deep one. I have the standard one. Using the spot they have for the oil heater for my by bypass from the socal oil pump.

So theoretically which is better. Oil pan or that fitting? Or basically the same thing.

Replace oil drain plug with a sensor? Haha

My sensor is in the pan, it sits a lot cooler then the coolant temp. I do have a large oil cooler though.

That's not 100% accurate.

Agreed, I worded it like that to be short and sweet, kinda like exaggerating to drive home a point.
I should have wrote something like......
When you install the sensor in a port after the cooler you will get oil temps that closely follow coolant temps. Not a true representation of oil temps in the motor or pan.

I have monitored oil temps in both pre and post cooler ports, with standerd thermostats and low temp stats, daily driving and towing a 16,000# trailer. With and with out a small (10,000btu) external oil cooler used to cool the oil going to my 483.
After seeing my oil temp stay at 250*~265* all day for 2 days (pulling my trailer cross country in a heat wave) I e-mailed Mobil about oil temps, sent a sample of oil to Blackstone, and spoke with Borg-Warner about oil temps and turbos.
