oil sumps

I'm working on the oil pan for my drag car and I noticed I have 2 different kinds of pickups.

One is rectangular tube and one is round tube. Anyone know when they switched to the round??

Lml pump. Larger dia squirters also.

Sure seems like that round one would be a bigger supply to the oil pump.

It's a good bit larger actually. There is a thread on here discussing the differences.

Only issue is, the lml pump is thicker than previous years and requires some machining to fit lbz/lmm front cover as I did. Or you can run lml pan and cover, theb modify hub on damper as I did on another engine. But I find no good reason NOT to run the LML pump and squirters on any performance build.

Gotta love the medium duty upper pans! Just replaced a bent rod in one while engine was in truck

Yeah you can easily remove all 8 rods. Even check 3 of the mains with upper on.

I modify these pans from front to rear sump for marine setups. Holds 15qrts in lower. Best design by far if ya don't have to clear a front axle..
