Question: oil pump

i have noticed there are two styles of oil pumps in our allisons the large tooth and small tooth which is better or is there a difference in performance/flow?

The latest design pump with the thicker teeth puts out more volume and is the pump of choice. It retros all the way back. Make sure you use the matching wear plate.

When did they change? I know I have the early style in mine as my trans was built 01-01 I believe.

They changed a couple of years ago; not exactly sure. It's the only pump available now.

Updated pump started back in 2006 with the introduction of the 6 speed trans. Suncoast stocks these and there reasonably priced, keep in mind this is only the complete front portion of the pump assembly.
