I was looking at the DPR oil pump but i'm a little on a budget and time is running out so i was told to just shim my stock one if i only plan on making about 750 one day :rofl: so my question is how many shims does what for psi on the stock pump and do you do anything to the reg it's a DD what do y'all think?

I beilve you would only shim the regulator. I know nathan has done it with a stock pump and regulator and said he got about a 15 psi jump not sure how many or what exactley he did. i would like to do the same thing as well.
exactly. If you shim the stock pump you will NOT see an increase in hot idle pressure. BUT as soon as the RPM's come off idle, the pressure rise will be a lot faster and the max pressure will be higher (as S phinney said)

I think I will leave mine the way it is stock.30 to 35 warm idle and 60 to 65 running down the road, At cold start up its almost 70 psi.

IIRC, min factory hot idle psi is 14. mines right there and any improvment is welcome. Prolly no easy way to up idle psi?

Just an FYI... On cold mornings (about -5*F or so) a shimmed regulator will blow the o-ring out of the oil filter if it's not plugged in all night long to keep some heat in the oil, and it'll run well over 100psi in the process. 
I tried several brands of filters and wound up putting one on tight enough that I broke the filter wrench while tightening it. I wound up going back to stock and inventing a few new cuss words while trying to get the filter back off.

How many shims did what for psi and are you talking about the piece on the pump or the one that comes out of the front cover
I really dont think its worth it...what we want/need is higher HOT IDLE oil pressure, which shimming the pump will NOT fix.

Drops pressure to much... its like having 8 oil leaks. If you had a big pump it prolly (total spring removal) could be done but not with a stocker. If the stocker is barely getting by why increase the need for volume?
TONS of people have done 600+ with a stock pump. You can to. If something fails with an oil pump mod the money you invested is flushed. BTW- Call Curtis he tried all the stuff your talking about on Boats/Cars/Trucks etc.. he actually did it/tested it. I was just farting around with washers.
Take a look at your squirters they can be opened up a little.

Just to let some of you know what i did on my small build with the DPR high volume oil pump. I drilled out all 8 ball and springs in the oil squirters and so far added no shims to the relief valve it runs 110-120psi on a 38* start up and driving down the road hot runs 65-70psi now hot idle is only 25-30 not to sure if this move was good or bad i am still running the stock oil cooler may change that out one day just though i would share my findings so far got 4800 miles on it.
