That's way low. Try a oil change and new filter.Pressure verified @4psi! That to me seems dangerously low. Any ideas as to what could cause this? Some sort of check valve stuck open?
I dont see how. I would try oil and filter first. Sadly I know 2 guys with the same issue as you, main bearings were shot....I was hoping that it might be that simple but I thought it was far fetched. Has anyone ever heard of an oil filter problem?
I haven't really seen any issues talked about on the LLY engines. That's where I was thinking of a pressure relief mechanism or a check valve of some sort that could be clogged or stuck open.
Yes they were....CRAP! For some reason I have been thinking about main bearings as well. How would I know if it is main bearings? It doesn't make any noises or run rough. It has never been a tow vehicle for a giant trailer. It does have the Banks kit on it and the previous owner and myself tend to have a heavy foot from time to time.
Bustedknuckles, were the two that you are aware of the LLY engine?
Not really, metal in the oil filter is about it!If it is main bearings what will I notice? Vibration? Weird noises?
Are there any oil pump issues?
Thanks for your input. Are there any support groups sections on this forum? If I need main bearings in my 'new to me' bitchin new truck I will definitely need a therapy session or two. LOL
Sorry, Im not a real internet buff so it took me a while to come back to report the GOOD news.
When I said that the oil pressure had been verified with a manual gauge I was incorrect. The oil pressure switch had been replaced which gave the same low reading on the dash and through the computer. With a mechanical gauge it had 20psi at idle when hot. My mechanic then looked deeper at the wiring and connections in that circuit and found a bad connection that was causing resistance making the dash read lower than what the sending unit was actually reading.
I have been driving the truck now for quite a while with no further issues! I LOVE my new truck!
