Hello All ! Newbie here to Duramax and Forums, Just purchased a 2003 2500 Silverado Duramax..with 180,000 on it about a mth. ago, been running fine until two days ago, oil pressure gradually starting dropping, pulled over after seeing this shut truck off, checked oil, looked fine but dark..black..no diesel smell to oil, did that paper towell test to see if any fuel in oil , seemed fine except looking like it needed changed with 86% showing on read out. Went to start it and crank crank crank nothing, waited about 45 min. It started made it home..it sits over night and fires up fine oil pressure fine, drive it 25 miles oil pressure drops to 30 , then wont start. Thinking injectors ? But oil smells like dirty soap water? A friend said dump a bottle of seafoam in oil and it will solve the issue with that and new filter & oil change and it is not injectors? I think it is, but new to the Duramax..any help would be appreciated.. Thx Rocky.

30 psi hot at idle is normal. Also, the oil gets black very soon after a change - also normal. Your starting problem could be a number of things. Check to make sure you have not lost prime pressure on the fuel filter prime pump by pushing on it. It should be very hard to push down. Change the filter now.

I do lose prime, pumped it about 5 times until couldnt push down anymore keeps losing prime, even loosened bleeder valve to see if straight fuel and was? Your on the right page with my problem...like if you ran out of fuel..and have to prime it. But after it sits for a while no problem.?

Your oil pressure is nothing to worry about. My 2003 idles hot at about 12-15 PSI, and has for over 6 years. The needle is one mark above the red on the gauge.

The smell sounds off, but that could depend on the brand/type of oil you are using. Since you just got the truck, it might not hurt to change the oil now to a good quality oil so you are in known territory.

Bingo Maybe ?

Got a flash light out, shined it on primer...pushed down and got to two times, fuel coming out of bleeder screw...got a wrench and didnt need one because was not even finger tight? And no ( O-Ring )..think maybe sucking air causing it to lose prime..fingers crossed..going to put 0 ring on it and tighten down good see if that it. Never saw this as was 2@m in morning. Thank you all very much !

If you already changed the oil, what did you use? If not, and you want to run conventional, then I would suggest Mobil Delvac 1300 15W40 as one of the better oils in the DMax. Rotella not as DMax friendly but still good.

Putting Shaffers Oil in it 15 40 synthetic, going to rebuild filter head and try that out, not much to them, a few O rings , spring check ball and your heater assembly..will keep you all posted ? Fingers crossed. Thanks again for your input ! :thumb:

Rebuilt filter head, changed fuel filter , oil filter and new oil..now have about 40 ar idle and at2000 rpm, I have 60...But no change after driven 20 miles, drops down to 20 on oil pressure and wont start until it cools down for about half an hour and oil pressure back up, then repeat..low oil pressure??? Could it be my injectors???:spit:

Oil pressure still sounds normal. Injectors could be on their way out. May be the actual check ball and seat problem, which causes too much fuel to return back to the tank and makes build rail pressure at start hard. This wouldn't put fuel in the oil.
