I was checking the oil and found the end of the dipstick was gone? I am beside myself to say the least and in the middle of nowhere on a Sunday. I am scared to death knowing the possibility of this piece damaging my motor. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

There are a couple old threads from this happening and it was said to not be an issue. You will have to either pull the tube and send a clean magnet in or you will have to drop the pan.

It will be fine. That piece is way too big to fit thru the pickup tube screen. And the dipstick hole in the upper oil pan is below the rotating assembly, so no big deal.

Thanks Novak, yes I had already been running the truck. I had checked it at a fuel stop. I have read that it's probably okay, but I am not easy on my ride and whatever damage has occurred is my own fault for not checking on it sooner. My concern is the tip looks as if it's some sort of non-metallic material, so a magnet may not work? I plan on getting it out of there ASAP, just wanted some information before I drop the pan.

Thanks 04GMC, this is the kind of information I have been looking for. I was pretty sure that the case, but all info is appreciated and personal experience better! I appreciate everyone's input!!

As long as the truck isn't upside down, it should never be a problem. If it is upside down, I think you have bigger problems! :thumb:
