I know his is a question than can Get crazy with opinions but have to ask because it's time to change it.
Background with the truck's past oils I'm 3rd owner 1st owner did what what ever the gm dealership recommended oil for 50k miles my brother was the next to own he ran royal purple wich is full syn 15w40with delco filter for 65k miles now my turn do I keep the royal purple or go with the most talked about and recommended oil out there..wich RP is not the most talked about that's why I am questioning to continue to use it
So let's hear the comments or experiences

Use whatever makes you and your motor happy. Some are happier with different oils. Just experiment.

If you change from Synthetic back to Dyno, you are probably OK at 115K miles.

I have Amsoil in my 2004 with 178K on the clock. Been that way since 30k.
2006 that I traded got Rotella at 86K till I traded her at 201K.
2017 will get swapped to Full Synthetic at 30k. First 24K are on GM. I think the dealer picks up till 36K, but I am thinking full synthetic instead of the dealership crap.

For a Michigan winter I'd consider a 5W-40 weight to help out with the morning sickness.

Use whatever 5w40 or 15w40 you want, as long as its rated for diesels. I use Rotella 15w40, even thru winter.

Dino, half synthetic or full synthetic in the recommended grades as long as it is a diesel formulated oil, doesn't matter.

I myself us rotella t6 5w40 as I can get it at Walmart

Like everyone says, any 5W40 or 15W40 diesel oil will work.

I run Delo 400, because it is reasonably cheap, and we always have a bunch of it at the farm.

First 210,000 miles on the motor it was changed when the DIC said to change it. Until about 300,000 miles I would change the oil at 10,000-12,000 miles per oil analysis. Since building my motor, I've been doing tons of changes chasing little issues. I hope to work it back up to 10,000 mile changes if the oil analysis OK's it.

The point is: these are solid motors. Use a rated oil, and change it eventually, and you'll be fine.

In the 04 LLY with amsoil, I have gone 30,000 with analysis and they said I could have gone longer.

It's all about filtration. The better the filters, the longer you can run the oil as long as the additives do not break down.

Ok the good filers as well what do you use or have hears or seen that's is a good filter I've been online googling for quite some time
From what I've seen by people's research ams oil and royal purple are some of the top filters being hay their synthetic filter not the paper like the rest

Yes that's what I have been running.. when I got the truck he gave me 2 1/2 gallon of RP and I bought delco fuel and oil filter

just put schaffers 5w-40 in the truck got around 200 on it dash cluster went out and havent fixed it yet

I run Schaeffer's 10w30 with a Napa Gold filter in my '07 Classic. My new MikeL transmission is running Schaeffer's 204SAT full synthetic Dex3. The rig strictly is now a tow rig hauling a 9k pound TT. My DD is a Jeep GC with an EcoDiesel and it has Schaeffer's 5w40 in it...

For oil filters in the 06 I have been running the Napa Platinum filters. Basically they are Wix filters.

In the 04 I run the dual filter setup with Amsoil filters.

I have heard the Donaldson filters are good.

I've got 315k miles using nothing but ACDelco PF2232 filters. If you shop around, they are quite reasonably priced, and seem to be of a very high quality.
