Ive got a really strange oil leak that for the life of me i can not tell where its coming from. It only shows its face when you drive the truck. I can clean everything off the bottom side with break cleen, fire it up let it idle and it will not leak a drop as long as it sits there. As soon as i drive it for say 10 miles or so the entire pass side of the truck will be coverd in oil all the way to the t-bar cross member thing. It seems to be coming from above the starter around where the rear of the head joins the block... can oil leak from the head gasket right there at the rear of the block? from the bottom of the head up the motor is spotless. any ideas?

that is the same area that the little hole in the valley will drain, have you checked down there? i have had a few leaks that i had a hard time locating and they ended up coming from the valley.

the valley is dry...i had a leak there before and already fixed that and my small turbo drain. Its only on the pass side nowhere else. it runs down the side of the block and right down to the bottom where the trans meets the rear cover.

maybe upper or lower valve cover?

no. like i said from the bottom of the head up is dry. Valve cover turbo drain ect. dry! Someone told me they have seen leaks at the front and rear bottom corners of the head i just dont see how unless when im driving the aluminum head flexes and allows oil to leak.

possible the frost plugs in the back of the block for the oil gallery.

Stock oil pump?

I would put rags or paper towel all around the block to tr and find the leak.

good luck Johny

I have an 04 lly with this same exact oil leak. I notice this is an old thread but was wondering if the issue was resolved? There is evidence of some seapage around the valve cover and intake manifold but its not pouring out like it does while I drive it. The truck has 185k on it, full egr delete and pcv reroute. Outside of that it's completely stock. The oil will hardly leak after an hour of idle in the driveway, as soon as I get the rpms up it pours out. After driving 200 miles I will have to add a quart. I have replaced the oil pan gasket so far and cannot see any oil coming from the turbo oil lines. It's is strictly coming from the passenger side. Any help will be great! I'm trying to get after this leak short of spending a ton at the dealer. -Stephan
