NOX sensor 2018 2500HD Duramax L5P

My truck is throwing a code for the Bank 1, sensor 1 NOX sensor. (Code # P2A00) Chevrolet is out of them nationwide and cannot give me any information on when they will get more. They said that it's possible that the truck could go into limp mode. Has anyone experienced this? Is there anything you can do to bypass the NOX sensor and get back on the road if it goes into limp mode? Will a full DEF delete get rid of the need for NOX sensors? Any info will be appreciated.

My uncle purchased some NOX sensors from AutoZone about two years ago and still seem to be holding up

Would not suggest aftermarket sensors. Seen far too many fail, personally.

Rockauto has genuine gm nox sensor. I know I can still get that upstream from my dealer as we got one end of last week.

As far going into limp mode, you sure as heck will and the more you push that thing, the harder it will be for you to fix the issue because you will continually gain more and more things to do after you put a new sensor/module in. There is 7 or 10 stages of derate that truck will go into, each one requires more ways with a scan tool to get it back out of derate. Suuuuper cool.

However, yesterday, I got an alert on the dash saying to keep driving because the truck is performing a re-gen. I couldn't just drive around for a while until it finished. This morning, the NOX bank1 sensor 1 error message came on again. I'm wondering if that was due to me not being able to joy ride for 30-45 minutes for it to complete the cycle. Starting to wonder if I need to get a Banks programmer so I can do re-gens when I know I'll be driving for a while. Anyone have experience forcing re-gens with a tuner?

From what I know, you have two options for a regen. A service regen where it's parked and running a regen. Then a forced regen that happens at the next available opportunity. So if the conditions are right triggering a forced regen will have it start right away while driving. But it may weight if all the conditions aren't met.

There are a number of items that need to be ready for a regen to start. Engine temperature, exhaust temperature, nox readings, engine load, fuel level, DEF level and quality, etc. if all are good then a regen will start as soon a a forced or service regen is commanded. If not then it will wait until they are

To your last point, yes. I've done it with a few different models and they all seem to work fine/do the job being asked of them. Like outlined above, it requires certain parameters to be met before the regen will actually start.

Thanks for your help. Just trying to decide if I want to spend money on a tuner. I don’t really need extra power, but fuel economy, ability to choose when to regen, and all of the data available would be helpful.

Ok. Cool. Which one would you recommend? I’ve just been looking at the Banks Derringer with Idash.
I would personally buy a Banks iDash 1.8! As others have stated, the Derringer is a tuning device.

Let me know if I can help! We are direct with Banks and I actually have some on the shelf here.

I bought both the Edge and the Banks and I use the Banks on the L5P. I like the small gauge and it ability to mount on the pillar. The banks almost looks oem in my 24.

I’ve been leaning towards the Banks as well. I like the small gauge myself. Are you running the Derringer as well or just the iDash?
