So I replaced the ic pipe on the drivers side last winter and noticed oil residue in the old pipe. Went on and here recently noticed the whistling has been getting louder and louder. I took the intake off and the compressor wheel has pits and nicks in it. The shaft play is still good for now. No in and out play at all. This would be my second turbo in two years. What's the deal here why am I going through stock turbos so quick? Is efi live that hard on journal turbos or what?

Could stuff be getting past your air filter? All boots and hoses ok pre turbo?

Yea I have an afe intake. It's a whole sealed box with a tube that runs directly into the intake horn. I checked the filter it was on all the way and clamped down. I don't see how any kind of debris could get in. Thinking of getting a big single, arp studs, and up pipes this winter but I don't want this happening to a brand new 471 or so.

Your right foot is what is hard on turbos also shutting the truck off before its cooled down after rodding it or towing but id make sure your filter isnt coming apart inside. Fwiw I ran 38psi outta my ihi for over a year never had a issue till something went threw it and destroyed it now it may have gone boom over time but was working great.

It's only boosting to 32# and I never shut it off over 400. I usually wait til it's at 300-350. I will pull the filter out and see if anything is coming apart. I did have a boost tube blow off after I changed it. A week ago the ground wire to my lift pumpgot caught in the spring to my hood and ripped it out. I had to relocate it. Idk if that would do any damage to the turbo. I wouldn't think so. Is it normal for the truck to fall on its face and bog down if the lift pump isn't working? It wouldn't hardly go over 2500 rpm with the lift pump not running.

I figured the cp3 couldn't pull enough through the pump. Sucks I have tried several different scan tools. A modus 2 or 3, AutoZone, and a snap on and cant get any balances for my injectors. I think one may be going out its smoking on race tune when it used to not do that. Been losing power since the first turbo went out. Am buying a v2 next month. Maybe I can find out whats the deal with this thing. I called fleece and they wouldn't touch it if they didn't make the tunes.

I'm not hammered down 24/7. I mean I may hit that once a week maybe. I cant hit 32 unless I'm in 4th or 5th and on it when it shifts. Most of the time it isn't over 20 pounds. Regardless I shouldn't be going through turbos so quick.

Is there evidence of the compressor wheel contacting the housing? If there is no shaft play in/out, up/down, a nicked up wheel doesn't necessarily mean the turbo is shot. Could just get some foreign debris in through the intake chewing up the wheel. Is there oil coming out the compressor our turbine side? Was this turbo new? Used? Reman? etc...

It was a used turbo but there weren't any nicks in it when I got it. I bought it off a guy whos truck had 125,000 on it. He put an aftermarket one on. And oil was coming out of the compressor side in the ic pipe.

Unless the nicks are on the edge on the wheel, caused by the wheel hitting the housing, there has to be debris getting in there. As far as the oil is your crankcase ventilation rerouted? or is it still in the intake.
One time i changed a turbo on a dodge and forgot to check the filter. The original turbo had went to pieces and thrown a bunch of shavings into the filter. I had the privilege of buying the customer another turbo out of the deal. :( will never do that again
