normal towing mpg?

hey guys just got back from a trip in the mountains of pa with my jeep and hand calculated my mpg to be right around 12.5 / is that normal? mostly hiway with about 30 miles of backroad towing.its a ccsb on stock tuning.4inexhaust,lbz mp with 20in fuel wheels on 295s. the jeep and trailer id say probably weight just north of 5k.my whole point to posting this is because ive read things about guys who get 13 towing 12k pounds .

Sounds normal those people that make that higher milage tow slow

I'll bet your jeep and trailer weigh more.

12.5 in the mountains is average. 13mpg with 12k is flat ground, 60-65mph and a tail wind at best

I passed a truck, similar to your description, hauling a jeep, on 78 today.
It was sport red ccsb Silverado with a pink slipper sticker in the back window.

On topic, that mpg seems in line with both my trucks.

Did a similar trip last month through the same area. Probably 6k gross trailer weight and did about 13 hand calculated. Those hills aren't the easiest to tow through, and speed plays a big roll in that.

When I tow my camaro around, I will usually do 15mpg, but thats a 3400lb car that isn't a brick :D

Thanks for the input , as far as tow weight goes I was figuring 1500 for the 18ft steel deck car trailer and about 3500 for the 92 jeep I have . My brother has an 01 eclb ram with a 24v and he was pulling the same load as I was and we calculated his mpg to be right at 14 . He also has 3.55 gears and I think the cummins revs lower in OD.
