i was also curious why you chose square tubing over pipe (sched 40).....weight? did you compare the 2? is there a lighter alternative to sched 40 without compromising much stregnth?

I chose square tubing for a few reasons , its easier to fit to flat surfaces( sheet metal ) , no notching required just miter cuts , and in my mind square tubing is stronger than tubing of the same thickness . Schedule 40 is a lot thicker walled then the square tubing i used , it is the thinnest wall 1" sq tubing you can get .

Are you planning on running the outer tailgate shell and a solid top to the bed, or did you decide to leave it all open?

open Tom about like this pic , but with some 4" holes punched out of the roll pan to help less air be caught .
