ATP is Idaho Robs shop in Boise.

No offense but anyone that would name a transmission the ripper 3000 would never work on my truck...

Personally I would go see Cam Hulse at Adrenaline Truck in Shelley Id by Idaho Falls. Pretty sure I said that before in your other thread.

If the output shaft is indeed turning, that means the input shaft is still turning and it's not supposed to at a stand still. Need to hook up a scanner and watch the turbine speed sensor. It better go to " 0 " when standing still. If not, a clutch in the trans is not holding.

Mike,

Getting push back on this. The shop doesn't understand why to run this test. They push back with "the input shaft is always going to spin, the torque converter is always going to spin..." "Why arent we looking at the output shaft only?"

Any chance you can school me real quick as to what to say, or help clarify to them why we need to look at the turbine speed sensor?

Thanks in advance

My apologies, I guess I missed it in the other thread. Also, I reached out with no call back, and I was kind of under the gun, I guess it backfired on me.

Unfortunately, I have to go forward in the situation I am in, and try to find a way out of this mess.

Like Mike said in post #11 if the clutches are not set up properly and not holding when stopped the t case has constant torque going to it , that is why on your first post you had to shut the truck off to get the t case to shift ! Do the turbine speed sensor test like mike said , the shop your at can read up on how it functions later on there own time ! GOOD LUCK !!!

The input shaft is connected to the turbine wheel in the converter which is always spinning with the C1 clutch applied holding the front drum. When the truck comes to a stop the brakes will stop the gear train from transfering the power to the ouput shaft. If the C1 clutch is not holding, there is nothing to stop the input shaft from transfering the power to the rest of the gear train. It is bascicaly like having a broken input shaft.
Your shop needs to go to school and learn the basics on how a transmission works. maybe the need to go sell hot dogs instead.

Thank you for the clarity. Will report back with findings.

Update:

Tested truck transmission cold(below 120 degrees), Turbine shaft speed goes to 0. 4wd shifted between 4lo and 4hi no issues.

Tested truck transmission warm(above 120 degrees), Turbine shaft speed stays at 300 rpms. Grinds it's self to bits trying to come out of 4lo.
Subtle smell of burnt transmission fluid.

Worthy of note, the TCM was never flashed after install of new transmission.
I have been informed that this is a critical step. The TCCM however is new and was flashed on install by the dealer with TCase #5... TCM was not, the shop that installed the transmission had issues with there scan tool and "relearn" procedure did not work and failed, so they thought just erasing the transmission memory would suffice.

Thoughts???

Trans is shot. If they blame it on a relearn, they are grasping for ways to get out of warranting it. In my honestly opinion, relearn or no relearn wouldn’t have stopped the issue

It is a good idea to reset the TAPs ( adaptive learns in TCM ) to let the Allison learn fron 0 memory. It does not need to be flashed. Without setting the TAPs, it can take a long time for the TCM to learn by itself and sometimes it won't learn completely. I'm surprised the Allison didn't go into Rangeshift Inhibited when your rpm's were at 300. Looks like this trans is coming back out. Problem is; is this shop capable of finding what's wrong? I hope they don't start playing the blame game.

Just like mike said , looking at test 2 it is why you were grinding up all those t cases, WE ARE ROOTING FOR YOU !!!

TX of course
Get with Rob at ATP and see if he will help. You need a shop to diagnose the truck, tear down the trans and document everything. Then sue the **** out of everyone.

wow :eek:, all these big chain trans shops sure keep a lot f the small guys in business. I would ask to get a shop tour and report back what you see I’m betting there’s floor dry being kicked all over, dirty as shit, and a few illegals doing the repairs :D If they can’t show you their facility always find another.

The build you described they sold you on the transmission sounds like a joke. Maybe have a reputable shop handle your allison. It sucks that it has cost you that much but it sounds like Mike L has you on the right track with the turbine speeds and most likely clutch troubles.

Update 3/1/19

Blame game has been played.

However, finally convinced the transmission retailer to warranty out the transmission. However, they made me drive it to Salt Lake City to have their shop do the R and R.
New transmission gets ordered and shipped, and installed, and has the SAME DAMN PROBLEM. Output shaft shows 300 RPM's in neutral and grinds the transfer case...
Now they are claiming I need to replace the TCM all together, and refuse to warranty the 2nd transmission, claiming two transmissions can't fail identically the same.

They gave me another option. They will find a used core(not my original core, for it is gone and they have no clue where it is) so any old core, uninstall their transmission, and install the unknown condition core, and send me on my way.... This still leaves me with a broken truck, now stranded in Salt Lake City....

Wow i was in blackfoot only 30 minutes north of pocatello.

Sorry you have had such shit luck and bad experiences.

Which shop in pocatello did all this again?

Take the truck to Randy's transmission in toole or take it to Gillette diesel in bluffdale those are 2 shops that actually know wtf they are doing

I'd let them put in the core, then go to a shop that has a clue. You won't be out any money, though you will have gone from your old known transmission core to an unknown, which is a bummer. But probably the best financial thing to do, I think.

Sorry to hear all this.
