When I started racing in the NHRDA 7 or 8 years ago it was fun... many weekend warrior trucks from 11.50's - 12.5's and lots of Sportsman class trucks. Tons of spectators and sponsors. Sure there we some low 11 second and a few mid 10 second trucks sprinkled in. When Super Street morphed into 8 second and low 9 second trucks I believe the organization took a hit. It was no longer practical or even fun to compete at least for me. I also agree that as emissions equipment became more prevalent the sport was negatively impacted. ALSO nothing lasts forever except Mr. Lovich's proclivity to fluffy, white and soft farm animals

Paul Breedlove has been racing his diesel against NHRA Pro class gas competitors for years and has won Wally's. Payouts are usually better and very few oil downs. But if a bunch of diesels started racing in the regular NHRA events who knows.
I dont think diesel drag racing is dying. Look at odss events. They have a bunch of trucks. At schieds we had 16 trucks in the 6.70 class alone. They have great payouts and classes that fit everyone. Events are a touchy thing to run. You have to have big purses for fast trucks to show up cause that's what crowds wanna see. But yet slower ones fill up the day and give the average Joe a chance to try it.

^^^ Hey now! :roflmao: Typically, we are about a decade behind the West coast as far as trends. The diesel scene is getting more popular by the day in the south east mainly bc the trucks are getting affordable to the younger generation...
Just like you said the ODSS is growing and adding races and the classes are getting bigger and bigger and it’s no fluke. They’re into the racing scene themselves and actually listened to what people wanted and they keep listening. The 7.70 and even 6.70 are great classes are affordable and the trucks can stay reliable.
We used to have a blast a Famoso. Used to spend a $100 and race until McRat blew shit up. I never did :spit:
Alright that was actually pretty emotional... You could tell the Cole's were really torn up over this.
That was tough to watch, met him and his wife a couple times during events, very humble folks.

Watched the video, very sad to hear even though I have never been a part of NHRDA. He had some very good points for the industry as a whole at the end of his video.

I had a blast racing with NHRDA. I now have many new friends that I wouldn't have had without racing. I seen the writing on the wall years ago. I seen the same thing in the 90's with The Fastest Streetcar racing. Now its starting to happen with the No Prep Racing. Big money and tough competition drives away the normal guy. When its not fun anymore people start to leave. Everyone needs to remember it should be fun and enjoy yourself.
