First off, I take offense to the hillbilly reference. There are no hillbillies in central OK, rednecks yes...and I am one of those, but no hillbillies. Also, OK is not the midwest.

Those cars are faster than you guys realize. They are low 7 sec cars in the 1/4. My brother saw Daddy Dave run a 4.19 1/8 on a track rental night with minimal track prep. They chop the races up on tv so much you can't tell how fast they are really going.

The racing started out as really finding a backroad to race on and hope you don't get caught. When Discovery got involved they turned it into a big production. They can still only race in certain places around OKC because some of the cops still don't like them. The test hits are real and they really get caught.

Big Chief and Sean (Murder Nova) are a couple of the nicest guys you'll meet. I have been by their shop a couple times and they always take time to talk to anybody who is in there. I have also heard from several people who have seen them at the track that they are the same way there. They talk to everybody, you can go up and look at and in their cars and everything.

As for the NHRA thing...I don't think they are too bothered. Here is Chief's FB post about it.

I didn't think this thread would blow up like this ha

Hell idc if the show is real of fake, it's still badass. If I had the chance to make a show about racing, and to help make a profit after building race cars, I would say why not!

I personally have met some of the crew members, and they were cool! I helped dyno Mike Murillo's car at SEMA (made 2300+hp) and he was one of the coolest/nicest racers I've met.

I agree there was a shot from the left lane of chiefs car on Monday and that thing was straight up checking the F out! Badass I love the turbo cars more than the NOS cars daddy Dave is cool too.

See this is what it's all about. We can all appreciate what different groups do weather it be diesels, had, bikes, boats, sleds, quads, it's what brings us all together with common ground of performance and souping our rigs up. Some people just don't get it and find a way to belittle it such as saying I couldn't even watch one episode of those hillbillys, I was hooked from the first episode and love to see what other walks are doing and admire them and it's that kinda of thing that drives me to do what I do.

Yeah, everyone's got they're own passion and I respect it, even if I don't care for it.

We all love diesel that's why we're here but we also have other hobbys too. And there's no way we all love the same thing thing as the next guy. At the end if the day I'm a gearhead. I love anything that's got a motor. I'll be paying 50$ a gallon before I'm in a hybrid! Unless it's the i8, thats pretty.

They have to make it entertaining for the people that don't quite get it though.

Never watched the show and i could care less what the NHRA says.

They literally had a demolition derby where one guy ended with a concussion and a car caught on fire:roflmao: I hate to know what qualifies as dumb hillbilly stuff.

Visit West Virginia, Kentucky & certain parts of PA and you can find out!

Anyone who says a demolitions derby is hillbilly or stupid has never been to one or participated in one. Tell me again how you wouldn't like to play bumper cars for grow ups?? Even if you thought it was stupid. Try it once and I bet you would have a blast.

It is awesome. I like when they use school busses.

Yeah there's combine demolition derby around here too. I can't remember where but I saw motorcycle demo derby one time on tv I think. That was a disaster. Oh and don't forget pickup and camp trailer racing lmao. That is a redneck idea of there ever was one lol

lawn mower racing takes the cake as the ultimate sign that you are a gearhead redneck/hillbilly

Sorry, I use redneck/hillbilly interchangeably. For me, if you're to the extreme end, you're hilljack.

In today's age if you look at this, NHRA's opinion, how can they be a organization that basically can be seen as condoning/promoting illegal street racing?

What happened 40 sum odd years ago is a whole lot different then today. It's on cable TV with tuns of viewer ship.

Just \looking at it with a open mind.
