Next upgrade

I've had this truck since new in December of '08, and every year I have added something to get me closer to the goal I envisioned when I purchased her! I am truly "there" now and loving it. But wants being unlimited, there's always more :)

As she sits, I am trying to decide what's next. I'm mainly between two items for next year sometime. One is an upgraded y-bridge and the other is a 10mm cp3. I have no interest in more power, as I am already flirting with disaster.

My stock y bridge is ghetto-rigged with straps and clamps because it was blowing out (45psi boost). It is solid as a rock as she sits, but I question whether a replacement would be the next move, or if I'm best off as-is. I honestly don't know if this is needed or not at my power and boost levels?

As for the pump, my tuning stopped when I could no longer hold strong rail. Off the dyno and onto the street, I make a couple more lbs of boost and while she takes the abuse, I do get the change fuel filter notice each time. Considering she's over 90k and been tuned since day one, an upgrade is a when not if scenario, but I'm in no hurry.

Again, I'm not running right out and buying stuff. This is just pre pre pre-shopping. I've considered Little things to reduce lag and improve flow like up-pipes or manifolds, etc. But honestly, since I'm not looking for power anymore, any suggestions should be for lower egts or faster spooling and not to eek out 20 more hp; they make stickers if I need to add that kind of power, lol.

So, spend my money!!! Hahaha

Thanks!
Wally

I agree. If you add fuel you'll bump the tuning and something will give. The hsp two piece Y bridge is an awesome piece!

If you don't want more power then just spend the money on pretty parts instead of go fast parts.

sweet Jesus, one toke over the line... LOL

Ok, loud and clear on being careful! But I do have restraint. I made it 80k on a stock tranny with a 3kus tune, lol. I had rules that I followed; lift at the top of 4th each time, every time.

I would look for parts to make it lighter instead, but she's 8k with me in it and 5/8'ths of a tank. My bumpers and winch alone weigh more than a Prius, hahaha.

So I am back to the y'bridge. Leave it ghetto strapped or replace? Awesome is nice, but I don't give a shit about looks :) If it doesn't reduce EGT and/or reduce stress on the engine then I'm content to leave my setup alone.

FWIW, my other goodies already installed are caltracs, truetrac, and the whole kitchen sink of front end and steering parts. Weight is a bitch, but I'm pretty stuck. I have a full truckload of sound deadening and those bumpers/winch. My wheels and tires are quite heavy; Boulder H2 wheels and Hankooks in 285/70/17. I don't know if there would be a real eye-opening difference in going to PYO's or stock 17's?

Kyle - when I see pics of your truck, I get a huge itch to lower mine. Especially that one glamour shot you threw on with your cheaters, OMG! But I really like the look of my truck and don't want to change :)

Feel free to point out body suggestions; I'm really happy with her though.

Mod wise I'm pretty much where you are. I'm adding a 12mm cp3 soon. And a set of 60-100 overs.... Then letting Mark tune it in person on his dyno using his cylinder pressure monitoring setup.

I might be alone on this, but replacement bumpers need a little taller wider truck to look good imho..apperience wise. Either way, that's a clean looking truck:thumb:

Manifolds up pipes y bridge and intercooler tubes don't add much power for the cost but they were some of my favorite mods because they greatly improved responsiveness on my truck. I did that all at the same time so I can't say which did what. I highly recommend them. a sportsman pump might be a good option on the fueling side.

I did the cold side piping when I removed the egr. I cut and welded my stock up pipe at that time and deleted the grid heater. I did notice it! I don't know if there's more to be had with the others, within value/reason.

You might want to consider smaller injectors. I have 40 overs and they are a bit dirty, but Towyouforfree has a similar setup with 100 overs and says it's not only very dirty, but idle in particular is very dirty. For my DD I can say that I am thrilled with what 40's have done for me, but any more would just be too much.

Make it breathe better. That 10mm pump is just an invitation to a cracked piston. Y bridge and Intercooler. Maybe up pipes too.

Yes, you would notice a huge differnce with lighter wheels. Losing close to half a ton would help greatly also. Lol.

You sound like my wife.

I'm coming up on needing tires very soon. Maybe I need to shop lighter wheels/tires. The shame of it all is that I really like my wheels. But damn they are heavy! I swear just my wheels must have been heavier than my old PYO's and tires!

TX of course
Heck you got 80 lbs of shackles handing on the bumpers.

I added a bigger cp3 thinking that maintaining rail would take some stress off the engine. Instead of dragging out a 3000us tune at 24k psi. Atleast you injectors though already.

hell, just the pintle insert hanging off my hitch weighs that much, lol. 2.5" solid square!

Yes the reason that I did the 40 overs were to drop PW. On the new turbo it is knocking on 650rwhp with just 2400us pulse :) But, the rail is down to 25k at that point. Like you, I was thinking a smaller pulse with full rail via a 10mm stroker pump would be easier on the engine. I think that if I resist the temptation to turn it up, it should be a good thing. But like everyone is saying, it's inviting the devil to come over for an innocent cup of coffee... you end up hung over the next day with a new tattoo, and the neighbor's husband coming over to get his wife and daughter back home, LOL.:roflmao:
