Hi,
I'm new here and like the info I've found here so far and hope that I'll find the DIY solution for the truck I'm buying. I'm buying an 04 e/c dually with 285k on the clock. The only issue i can find with it is that under no load throttle, it surges. It acts like someone who can't keep a steady foot on the go pedal. I've done some searching and found that FPR and air in the fuel are possible culprits. Any other suggestions are welcome.
Thanks

Use a scan tool and look at desired vs actual fuel rail pressure. The actual should mirror image the desired at idle, if the actual surges up and down while the desired stays constant then you will need to replace the FPR...

Thanks for the input guys. At this point i don't have a scan tool but that is on top of the must do list. So far I haven't seen the surge at idle, only under light throttle at highway speeds. My f p r came in the mail today, I'll report back when i get it changed. That won't happen until at least late next week though.

On the way to get the truck I picked up a bottle of Diesel Kleen and Sharon put it in the tank while I finished up the paperwork. No surging since!!! I hope that was all there was to it.
