New welding mask!

Ok so i was walking through Harbor Freight and i saw this welding mask that looked a LOT like the iron man mask and i figured i could repaint it to look like the real thing and here are the results.
The mask i started with:

Base coat applied and masked off:

Face plate painted:

Painting finished:

Just gotta get a couple layers of clear on it and itll be good to go!

Nice. We just got these from 3M. And they have the Nexus Speedglas in them. Fresh air supplied. They were prototyped for a year and then rebuilt. Just got it two weeks ago. They haven't been released to the public yet though. Prepare to spend $3500 if you want one for your garage. Lol

These hoods were custom made for us by 3M. Way better than our old ones and about 2lbs lighter.

I know a few people who have had the HF ones fail on them so watch out, but really nice paint job! I got one of the really nice miller helmet, and if I broke it I dont think I could go back to the HF one, my welding got a lot better when I went to it

Fail? What was the failure. The only thing I truly do not like about the current set up is the liquid crystal in the SpeedGlas gets to hot and blacks out. The LC is not conducive to the heat from 750 amps over an extended period (more than about an hour at a time). It does depend on how close you are to you weld, but I do enjoy the ability to see more of the surrounding area and the puddle much more clearly, even at shade 13. I'd go home blind if I welded with it set in shade 11 or 12. I typically use a shade 12 glass lens, but the LC lens lets more light in.

It was a frind of mine that was tig welding, and it just went clear on him. Don't know how old the helmet was but I know he won't use them anymore! I'm not that great of a welder, but I found that the miller seems to let me see what I'm doing much better under the arc and I got better by just switching to it.

Those have the same style head mount as speedglass. There very comfortable
