I recently purchased an 01 LB7 4x4 with 106,000 miles. It has brand new injectors and injector pump. So far I have put an SB CAI, 5 inch Diamond Eye straight pipe, ppe boost valve, and I have a ppe 10 stage programmer set on 5. I'm about to order the LML drivers side exhaust manifold. I found one for $57 online. I'm about to order some glow shift gauges, boost, egt, and fuel pressure. Has anyone used these gauges before?
And what should my next mod be. I'm really looking to get my truck running as efficiently as possible. So I was thinking a fass lift pump and a big downpipe.
I appreciate any advice or knowledge thrown my way. I've only had my first diesel for a month and I'm still learning new things.

Lift pump, tie rod sleeves, build the transmission and install a pump rub kit in the Tcase.

Thanks. Is the Fass titanium 220 gph the best set up?
Are the big HD tie rods worth the money?
What all goes into building an allison 5 speed? Torque converter?
I'm definitely going to get the rub kit in the transfer case. I had one in my 01 4x4 1500.
What are some good brand of guages that aren't too ridiculously expensive?

And what kind of problems do your dad's glowshift's have? Thanks

The egt probe is crazy unresponsive and delayed. Mine works great, but you get what you pay for. The glowshift wiring and mounting hardware sucks. It's done what I needed it to and was all I could afford at the time. But I'll be upgrading soon. Not sure what to yet though

Thanks, that helps me out a lot. I'm going to look into some other brands.

I coughed up the coin for nice Autometer gauges and haven't had any issues. I installed a set of glow shift on a buddies 7.3 and wasn't impressed. The line for the boost looked line hose from a fish tank setup. Like mentioned before sleeves built trans and a lift pump are a must when running anything over a 80-100 hp tune. 220gph is a little big for a stock motor setup. A 160gph is more than enough.

I'll look at those autometer's. My inner and outer Tie rods need to be replaced. I was thinking about just buying the big HD ones. Fass makes a 150gph titanium. I might just get that one.

And what all goes into building a good strong trans? Is there a (relatively) cheap way to get a 6th gear in my allison. I don't want to be tacking 2200 rpm at 75 mph on the highway.

I looked up autometer's. They're pretty badass. What did you not like about the glowshifts?
I was thinking about getting just the pillar and gauges themselves from glowshift. And getting the hardware from another company. That has better quality lines and fittings. Did the gauges themselves look like they were good quality, or did they seem cheap.

If you're looking to build your trans and make it a 6 speed it'll be at least 4-5k and that's building it yourself. IMO adding 6th gear isn't worth it. It'll only bring the Rpms down 200 or so. You'll need a gmax5 kit or equivalent with a triple disc converter to handle bigger tunes. IMO the gauges seemed cheaper and I didn't like the way they wired up. The egt probe seemed kinda cheep also. You get what you pay for. I'm sure there's guys that love them and haven't had any issues. There is nothing cheap about building these trucks. For the amount of money I've put into my truck along with buying it I could have built a few gas cars/trucks running 10s or faster. It's the price you pay to play :thumb:

Hit up Andrew at Suncoast he is a vendor on here! He will set you up with everything you need on a trans.

I appreciate the info. I see the whole glowshift set with gauges, hardware, and pillar for a little over 200. Hell, some of the autometers are 100 per gauge. And I hear ya. I've had 3 1500 Silverado's, all with 5.3's.
But the diesel aftermarket is something else. I can already tell I'm going to be dropping some serious coin on this truck. But how can you put a price on happiness?

I would definatly look at getting a fuel lab vortex 200 lift pump it has a low voltage brushless motor so it will never corrode and the seals will never wear out .

Are those features different than how the FASS pumps are built?

Ya definitely check out the site. That is what I'm saving up to get for my truck with the problems I keep reading about with AD and FASS . My buddy has a cummins and he had told me about the fuel lab and that's what he was getting told me to read up on it.

I looked them up, they're pretty sweet. I'm thinking about going with one of those.

"Diesel" = "gourmet" when it comes to pricing on parts. You havent seen anything yet.
