New Rollcage Rules:

If you are planning on a rollcage for your truck, be aware that the NHRA is changing the rollcage rules for 2009.

For the BETTER. Looks like they are removing the requirement for the 2 support bars that hold up the main hoop on CAGES. This will make it easier to keep your back seats, or for RC trucks, it will keep you from running bars through the window and into the bed. This is for steel body pickups.

what if the NHRA/DHRA made some special class for the 11.00-11.49 trucks that had a different style of rollbar altogether.

What I was thinking was a tall braced/structural bar that fits in the bed, kinda like those cheesy redneck light bar setups, except taller and functional. That way if the truck were to roll, it would roll on the bar and front part of the hood/core support. Theoretically the cab/roof/a-pillars wouldnt even be able to touch the ground. Sort of like compact utility tractors that have ROPS, just a single upsidedown U shaped bar that goes right behind the seat. That way you wouldnt need to tear up the interior and the bar could be removable.

Not that they would ever pass that, but it was just a sort of neat idea Ive been thinking of..

Pat, do you mean the 2 bars that have to run 30 degrees from the hoop down to the frame? That would make it alot easier.

Steel-bodied pickup trucks (7.50 seconds and slower), roll cages are permitted with no back braces if the roll cage satisfies SFI 25.1E, 25.2, 25.4, or the roll cage consists of a four-point (door car) cage with a complete SFI 2.4B, 2.5B, 2.6, 2.7A dragster, SFI 10.2, 10.3 altered, or SFI 10.4 street roadster roll cage/driver's compartment incorporated into and attached to the four-point roll cage. An upper windshield bar is mandatory.

Non-steel-bodied pickup trucks (7.50 seconds and slower), roll cages are permitted with no back braces if the roll cage satisfies SFI 25.1E, 25.2, 25.4, or the roll cage satisfies the requirements for SFI 2.4B, 2.5B, 2.6, 2.7A dragster, SFI 10.2, 10.3 altered, or SFI 10.4 street roadster roll cage/driver's compartment. Thanks for the info Pat, just getting ready to cage/roll bar the red truck, white one already caged. Engines done so maybe we'll get this show on the road pretty soon. About time. This red truck will be the Super Street truck.

Simon we are trying to figure out another way for Matt Larsons truck , he doesnt want the plexi window , we were thinking we might be able to punch out of the top of the cab between the glass and the roof with the back bars and then the glass rear window could stay . Havent measured yet to see if its possible but something to maybe look at ?

I've seen on chris werners dodge that his bar goes through the cab instead of the window. Just unsure if it will work on a chev.

Can anyone tell me where you can find info on SFI specs? I'm completely oblivious to all this rollcage stuff. All I know is that i need one.

Why do the bars in the bed have to go to the roof bar? they can run to the cross bar bellow the window and you can add 2 bars from the lower cross bar to the roof bar and transfer the load to it...

I did a quick calc and it will in fact transfer the load the same as if the bed bars went to the top roof bar....

Im not looking at the rules, but it will work structurally...

Also I dont know what the reactions are at those points but I can out a large number in where it doesnt fail with the bars at the top, then do the same with the bar at the bottm cross bar (under window) and it still doesnt fail. Actually with same reactions it very close to the normal way thru the window. I can also add 2 bars from the center cross bar to a bar going across floor and it exceeds the current setup just over 1.3 times at those top reaction points....

There is room to fit 1.75 above the rear window on a GM Classic truck. Unknown on LMM.

I know they are pretty strict on a cage good for 8.5 sec wonder if there is some leaway on a 10.0 bar? Getting ready to put one in the 06 extended cab. I'd like not to lose the back seat but will if I have to. Side braces will be removable like Dimitri's.
