so im a welder at the ruger firearms foundry. i have a white truck and the ashes from the foundy exhaust have burnt into my clearcoat. This makes my truck look likes its rusting allover. I spoke to the plant manager to see if they would do anything, he told me that it couldnt be proven that the company has caused the damage so i was s.o.l . Im waiting to here from my insurance company about getting some new paint, the truck is currently white with tan interior i really am considering haveing it painted black. Think i should go for it or just leave it white??

Mine has little rust spots all over it. I think mine came from wind blowing filings from the grinders on it. I plan to repaint mine soon, I'm thinking about a dark gray or like a carbon color. Toying with the idea of a simi gloss/satin also. How do you guys think that would look?

My truck had the little 'rust' spots on it too. Not real bad, just that I could notice after I washed it. I did the clay bar and it took them away. Takes a damn long time on the truck, but it seemed to work. I will have to check it once winter is over to see if they reappeard. If your insurance company will cover a new paint job, I would do it too! Just make sure to get it done by someone very reputable.

Most cars have these specs you are talking about, a lot of it is just rail dust from when the cars and trucks are transported from the factories by trains. It shows up worse on white and a lot of people dont notice them but some time with a clay bar will take them off.
