Hey guys just got a 01 LB7 it's my first diesel. Gonna jump on here get some ideas for mods and suggestions for sites to order from. Truck is bone stock with the alisson mainly looking to bump up the power a bit but rather not build the tranny will be using it for towing and a driver. Was looking at MBRP exhaust thoughts on them also suggestions on down pipe and intake? Had read it seems some guys modify there stock intake instead of buying a aftermarket one opinions on this? Had seen some vendors listed here on the sites anyone particular good with members on the forum?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum...

Depending on your budget, exhaust is a great place to start and aftermarket downpipes are so affordable, you might as well get one...A lot of guys have modded the factory intake with success, again your budget will dictate...Those items will help keep temps down while towing...The majority of us run EFI Live for tuning, but there are other options...Good luck with your new truck...

Hello from Snoqualmie Falls!
Where abouts in Washington do you live? I started a thread called "Washington members roll call" so we can band together and help each other out or just get a Dmax/diesel orientated meet together someday and talk shop, you might be able to find some guys local to you to talk to :)

Depending on where your at, I can think of a couple "decent" diesel shops, an excellent choice for mods and tuning and a local is Scott Helpenstal over at Screamin Diesel Performance, he's over on the Olympic Peninsula and has a good reputation for just about everything you could think of, he specializes in duramax performance and is well known for Twin Turbo kits and EGR deletes...

Like Neens said, downpipe and exhaust are good first mods, a lift pump is a really smart piece of equipment to add to the fuel system, EFI-Live and start saving for a good transmission...

There's quite a few turbo mods/options for the IHI turbo that net some decent gains too, also like Neens said -it all come down to your budget-
and your goals and what you need/do with the truck

Welcome to the forum! There's enough info here to make your head spin and eyes bleed, take your time...

Yup!
Born and raised!

You visit them very often? Do they live on the lake? I really like that area allot, super nice pace to live, great schools...
I'll be even closer to Lk Samamish next month, moving to a new (to us) home in Redmond. Hit me up if you're ever out this way!

I was looking at MBRP exhaust either 4" or 5" then some brand of downpipe those didn't look that bad on price seems most are under 200. If an aftermarket intake will perform better then a modded factory I would be down to get an aftermarket one. Any suggestions on places to order parts from?

I'm down on the south border end in Vancouver area! I'll have to check out that thread. Basic plans for the truck are a driver but also towing I plan to tow a toy hauler that's gonna be loaded down some what. Right now I have a 18' flat bed for the quads that I used my old half ton to town down to the dunes. Now that I got the dmax will be looking for a toy hauler maybe next year. I have been looking at MBRP exhaust either 4" or 5" is there any real gain difference between the two or mostly just sound? Also was gonna do the down pipe any particular brand better then another far as fitment and quality? Then if an aftermarket intake will do better then a modded stocker id go that route. Any suggestions on a intake?

Thanks!

I'd say you can mod your intake to be more than sufficient for your needs for free! It's called the PPE intake mod, IIRC...and you can also port your turbo intake horn or modify an LBZ one to work on your LB7 IHI turbo and that's a cheap better than stock alternative

As far as a downpipe goes, the LB7's are significantly different than the LBZ/LMM, I'd imagine for the LB7 there is one that's known to be best but I don't know what it is. I know PPE just came out with one not to long ago and their stuff always seems to fit well, but as I mentioned SDP makes some really good stuff to and typically at a very fair price as well...

4" vs 5" exhaust is all preference, I don't believe you gain any performance by going with a 5" exhaust until you've got some big twins and ALLOT of horsepower. As far as sound I like the 4", the 5" sounds a bit "hollow" to me, comes with a lil wider range in the RPM where you'll hear drone and costs a little bit more, bang for the buck 4" gets my vote
:thumb:

I'd start with the basics: downpipe, exhaust, lift pump and stock trans tuning and go from there! You'll be pleasantly surprised if you've never experienced an EFI-Live tuned duramax and it'll be more than enough to pull a trailer like your talking about like it's not even there
