I'm gonna get hated on for saying this but my buddy who has an ass load of miles on his lb7 buys either single injectors or buys a set of refurbished from injectors direct. Now I know a lot of people think that's dumb. In my truck I'd buy oem or reputable aftermarket brand but it's super light on the wallet and his last quite a long time a full set lasted him almost 80k if he buys singles he said but every 20k he is doing one. He has owned it since new. Not everyone can have a couple grand sitting around I know a couple different guys who use injectors direct. Kind of dumb replacing all of them if it's just one or two.

So is there anything to keep them from failing? Besides buying an LBZ?

nope, you will get 80-120k before they start to go if you use quality remans. bodies cracking and solenoids cracking have all been solved but the design at the needle has not been for stock flow and it will die over time. the SAC style sound promising but as mentioned, you must have a tune that is accounted for the ~45% larger injection of fuel they induce.

buy fuel from known good stations that always have people at it, save your pennies and be ready for the day to come.

i did a top end swap to LLY including LLY ECM as well. one of my fav upgrades. truck runs quieter, option to run a VGT turbo, and injectors external of the valve covers. they still have injectors go bad just like high mile LBZ but its mainly high return rates when they do die.

actually you wont be. there are quite a few guys who have done just as you stated, including myself. But most guys tire of going back under the valve covers every 10-20k to replace ANOTHER injector when they can just do them all over a weekend in 80-120k. The other big issue is the amount of crap that then falls on top of each injector inlet from the high pressure line. unless you have been RTVing the tops of the nut around the line, you damn well will get crap in there every time you pull a line. doesnt take much to then kill the internals from that stuff. I replaced two on mine, one on each bank as the solenoids were dieing. i did this as i was planning on doing the LLY top end swap and just wanted to get the truck by till then. i wouldnt ever do it again :roflmao:

Ya makes sense. My friend is damn fast under the hood of that truck you can tell it's like the back of his hand haha. I hope I don't need to do mine for a long time.

What did the LLY swap cost you?

about 2k but to come across a deal like that would very rare.

if you do the LLY swap where the LB7 ecm and ficm stay in place, it could possibly be done for 2k. main benefit being you now have external injectors on the heads. essentially they should last the same as the LLY setup too. a little more wiring on your end is needed for this setup

I had pretty much this exact thing typed out. Then my phone glitched up and lost it all. lol figured id wait for someone else cause I knew it was coming. Honestly oh don't need an LLY swap. If you want that. Get an LLY. If you happen to have the extra money laying around and time to do it then great. But you're gonna have a lot more in an LLY swap and a lot more hassle than 200-250k worth of injectors. Only reason I'm considering the swap is I picked up a complete LLY engine for $100.

Anyone see anything that jumps out? I see the RTV on the valve cover on the driver side. The seller said they changed four injectors. Not budging on price of 7k despite not being able to start the truck

what did they do? hose it down with salt every day?

all of the aluminum, alternator, brackets, valve covers, etc are all corroded and pitted.

No way I'd give 7k for a non runner like that I can't diagnose. Maybe the trans is shot too.

Find another one. Based on the lack of info given by seller and what Im seeing in the pics, you're better off continuing to look.

I paid 5k for an LLY that ran just fine. It needed some work but it ran and had no blow by. Southern truck with no rust, underside and motor look brand new. Also had a brand new set of 33x12.5 toyo rt tires. The dealer couldnt even replace the batteries to crank the damn thing? Walk away, better deals to be had.

filtration will make no difference on a LB7. yes its nice to have added filters for cleaner fuel but it will not stop them from failing.

I found a 2006 LBZ with 256k miles. Drove the truck, it runs good shifts good and had plenty of power. No blow by... should I be scared? He wants 8500. Crew cab 4x4.

Sounds like a deal if the truck isn't in real bad shape. Lift pump? It might be hiding injector issues.
