Im a new member and dont own a dmax yet. I found an 03 LB7 and am very interested in making the purchase. The truck has a few issues and I am well aware of the LB7 injector issues. Is there any other issues I should look for? I have always wanted a dmax and do not care for the DPF and EGR crap of the newer trucks. I consider myself pretty mechanically inclined and I am not scared to work on the truck. Any advice is welcomed. Thank you

just remember the trick is 14 years old and will have issues with things besides the motor. If you're ready to tackle the injector issues and possible headgaskets and such and you enjoy the truck then great. But be warned, diesels are expensive to repair.

Hub assemblies and pump rub are the major ones, brakes lines rot out, water pumps go out, steering shafts clunk, the stepper motors and the solder joints in the cluster go bad and the hard steering line rubs through the hot side intercooler pipe.

Ya that's on my kid. I don't know any of you nothing to prove or lie about. Real shit. So is what I said to the new guy. So many people just get bashed on here because they don't know and ask a question. Also I never said it had 550. I've never dynoed it. Just gave a list of what was in it. And I said I never towed on top tune.

Thanks for the replies... Im so nervous about going through with it. Lol. I have had my previous GM for 17 years! Its from a used car lot, but I have done my research through carfax etc and it passes the eyeball test. There are just so many unknowns because it has been sitting for almost a year and the batteries are dead. So im taking a shot in the dark. If he will come down on the price im doing it. He wants 7k as she sits with 199k miles. Seems high, but the truck is in exceptional shape both interior and exterior for a 14 year old truck. Ill keep ya posted

If you know about the big expense for the injectors and are prepared for it, and the truck is in decent shape and the price is good, then go for it.

The members here can smell bs from a mile away, and have no problem calling a person out b/c of it. Thats how it works. We dont coddle anyone.

Seems to me you sure dont complain about all the free advice/information you've used from here. Keep in mind, you are also free to leave at any time.

Ya I'd take it through an extensive drive. But sounds like your prepared for the common issues. My friend has over 350k on his he just stayed on top of the maintenance and always had the cash saved just in case. I'd recommend a good efi live tune like a 30 or 60hp and a solid lift pump.

Thank you... I have read the lift pump and added filtration can help these motors last. Definitely on the list if I am able to get this thing.

filtration will make no difference on a LB7. yes its nice to have added filters for cleaner fuel but it will not stop them from failing.

They will fail no matter what. Just a design flaw. Drive it till one fails the. Put new ones in. It's not really that huge of an issue honestly in my opinion. If I can get 70-100k out of a set, that's not a massive bill. Better than doing a transmission on a gasser every 100k. Many people have spoken about the newer SAC style injectors being a better option that lasts longer but you'd need EFILive as the smallest size they come in is 45 overs. Do your maintenance. Run good fuel. Make sure everything is healthy in a regular basis and drive it till it quits
