IMO a lot. The drivability of the edge isn't the best on tune 3 and higher levels. It has horrible timing in lvl 4-5 causing high drive pressure and timing rattle. The edge doesn't manage the torque very well and will hurt the trans in the long run if not defueled in the config options it has. Ive had lvl 3 limp several tucks on stock trans. Another reason is having the truck tuned where the customer wants it. Some people want a more sensitive throttle then others. The tuner can also adjust the torque and what rpm he wants the fuel to come in to help save the trans since hes rollin on 35s. Also with efilive and being a LLY the turbo brake is very nice when towing. Custom mileage/street tunes are very nice too.:thumb: With a reputable tuner like Tony, Kory, Rob, ect I think efilive would be way more beneficial to the OP then a edge juice with attitude. But like I said that's JMO.

True that's your opinion. There are many guys out there that do like edges throttle response. I've seen more trans lost to efi then edge. You do have a valid point on the turbo brake and the live tuning. But yet the gains are not worth the 1000 bucks in the ops situation. Also edge is a reputable tuner.

You can get a switch and a tuned ecu for like $350. Honestly I don't think you need gauges for a stock trans truck as long as you have some self control. You can blow up a completely stock truck if you're being silly.

I think an autocal and a swtich is like $450-500 from Kory, you can save a couple hundred if you know someone with a v2. If you were buying new, the efi would be cheaper than the edge.

You don't need gauges with stock trans tuning. My truck stock trans truck has an insight. On the hottest day of the year, pulling 20K+ lbs egts barely touched 1300 deg pulling a big hill, down shift and they are under 1200 deg. In the hot tune they touch 1500 deg, but still no biggie. IMO you will hurt the trans long before you ever hurt the motor.

With efi you have the opportunity to have the best programming available and not to mention the most customizable. You get 5 tunes of whatever you want. Smoke(I know I know, but it is an option), no start, eco, maxeffort, exc, exc. Why would you settle for second best? Edge isn't even second best, I would go with PPE before edge.

Instead of spending money on a built trans, turbo, piping, or a lift pump, spend the money on good tuning, then start up grading the truck. How much power your truck makes and how long it lives all revolves around the tuning.

Near PPE. where are you located in So Cal? Mike does the best trans work. EFI is the way to go, but as a few others said, if you go higher HP than you have with the 35's you are gonna need a trans. Be careful heavy towing with higher boost because it can hurt the head gaskets in the 05's.

I've got a buddy who had twins on his LLY pushing 60 psi of boost and no problems. HG issues have more to do with age, how the truck was driven (lots of stop and go, not letting the truck get warmed up), and/or luck of the draw.

May have been your buddy was the luckier one. Usually 50 psi is where guys start doing studs. Also note I am talking about towing heavy. I am not bagging on Lily trucks but 05 seemed to be more likely to have issues than other years. I currently have 3 guys trucks all 05 running 50rwhp tunes with stock trans and hg's

honestly truck is babied. meticulously maintained etc. warms up for at least 10 minutes before it goes anywhere and i let it cool to be low 350 egt before shut down. highest weight it tows is the toy hauler at 14.3 K sometimes. but thats it other than that its the boats and what not. i dont run her hard i play around every now and then but other tan that she gets babied and sees more highway than anything else. ive owned it since new and have only put 70k on it and just did a huge service for the 2nd time (serpinetine belt, all fluids, trans service, brake fluid power steering etc etc...

Not sure if it the same on the lly but I know going from an edge to efi helped alot on keeping my egts in check while towing and racing around.
