Just bought my first diesel, a 2002 2500HD LLY with 265,000 miles on it. Oil smells like oil and exhaust is clean. I'm loving the rig so far and it capabilities. I have a 2000 mile round trip coming up later this year and was hoping to get some input on tires. For around home I prefer more aggressive tires. On the weekends I usually take the lady and kids up into the mountains (mud, gravel, snow). I'm just not sure of what tires would last and serve well for the trip and around home on the weekends. I can only afford one set of tires. Thank you for any input. Oh, I'm about 4,100lbs front axle and 3,000lbs rear with full tank and family.

welcome, where in Oregon do you live? First off if your truck is an 02 it is an LB7 not a LLY. What is the history on the injectors? LB7's were hard on injectors so I'm assuming they have been changed at least once with the amount of miles you have on the truck. I'd also make sure to change the fuel filter often, I change mine every time I change the oil, I use the smallest micron filter you can find. I use a 2 micron filter that I mounted in line, I think you can get 3 micron filters that will fit the stock filter. Lots of good tire brands, some of the softer compounds like Toyo's tend to wear out more quickly due to the truck torque, pretty much just scrubs off the tread. Good luck

Welcome to the forum! I have two sets of tires I run on H2 wheels, Toyo 265-70-17 M/S and Toyo H/S for summer towing. I have gotten excellent wear out of them, in fact Toyo just recalled the H/S and I got a brand new set totally free after putting over 30K miles, mostly 5th wheel towing, on my old ones which still had over 50% tread left on them. I will keep buying Toyos. Not the cheapest but the best I've found for the type of driving and towing I do.

BTW, where in Oregon? I live in Indy...

I live in southern Oregon. Roseburg to be exact. Thank you for that correction... it is an LB7. As far as injectors... I don't know at what mileage they were done. I am doing some research on lift pumps/fuel-air separation systems. The tires I decided on are 285/75/R16 Cooper S/T MAXX. Only about 600 miles on them so far but quite possibly the best A/T tire I have drove on.

Thanks for the input. I live in Roseburg area and went with Cooper ST MAXX after much reviewing and research and so on. I have about half or more of my local miles on gravel, dirt, mud & snow so I went with all terrain tires. So far I am very happy with their performance both on and off road.
