Hi everyone, I was recommended to this forum so decided to join up. Don't have a D/Max but am a Chevy guy, have a 98 Vortex Max, 96 C5500 RV w/ 8.1L, C4 Corvette race car and 06 Pontiac Late Model (ASA Stockcar) race car. The team and I are currently considering replacing our chevy race motor in the Pontiac with a diesel. So here's the plan and questions,

Firstly I am new here, so if this post is in the wrong place please let me know and I will move it. For about 18 months I have been researching diesel engine combinations for endurance racing, the races are 3hrs, 4hrs, 6hrs, 12hrs and 25hrs long. I have been advised, bribed and lectured to use either an Audi or Merc engine, but, I believe we can get it done with a grassroots effort based on what we run here in the US. Additionally the car is a tube frame Pontiac bodied ASA National Tour car (stockcar), and I just can't bring myself to put a German engine in it.

Banks tried something similar to this a few years back with little success, don't really know the reasons, but from the build spec I would guess keeping the driveline in place and tires under it. In road racing the TQ curve is just as important as the HP as thats what drags you out of the corner everytime, and we have between 11 and 18 corners per lap.

I'm looking to see if this is possible,

1. An engine with a fairly straight TQ curve limited to about 650 ft/lbs
2. An engine with a linear HP curve limited to about 600 HP
3. Very good crisp throttle response
4. Reasonable (9mpg) fuel consumption
5. An engine combination with longevity of at least 30hrs between rebuilds

TQ and HP numbers are limited by tire degradation toward the end of a fuel run, 32 gallons.

If possible I would like to have an engine capacity between 5.0L and 6.0L and I don't know if its possible to de-stroke or de-cube a DMax? Also multiple turbos would be an advantage in throttle response and lag time I think? Also are there ways of eliminating about 200lbs from the engine, especially higher up?

I am not hampered by rules restrictions so really any combination can be considered. I am most grateful for any suggestions and/or advise that you folks may offer, and thank you for your time.

Welcome Ray. I was the one who PM'ed you on the other site.

There are quite a few people here doing different things under duramax power.

From some of the fastest 1/4 mile trucks, sled pullers and land speed racers, you should get some good info here hopefully. :thumb:
