If a high-end 2011 GMC Sierra Denali 2500 Heavy Duty with two rear wheels is good, then four wheels must be better. GM sources say an even heavier-duty dually version of the Denali is planned for introduction later this year.

The addition of the upscale Denali trim for the latest Sierra HD was announced Wednesday at the 2010 Work Truck Show, but it will be available at launch only as a crew-cab, four-wheel-drive, single-rear-wheel, three-quarter-ton model with a choice of either the standard 6.0-liter V-8 gas engine or the 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V-8 .

What does checking the Denali option box buy you? Sierra Denali HDs receive a unique four-bar chrome grille with body-colored bumpers, chrome door handles, chrome accents and 18- or 20-inch polished forged aluminum wheels. Inside, you get Denali-specific brushed aluminum trim, power-adjustable pedals, a Bose premium surround audio system and 12-way power seats. Along with an optional heated steering wheel, heated and cooled leather-appointed seating is available. The exterior will be offered in three colors: black, Stealth Gray and white.

The Denali option package has been available in the light-duty GMC Sierra 1500 since 2002. Pricing for the 2011 GMC Sierra HD pickups hasn't been announced.

wow thats cool... a Duramax Denali. If they do release this then why couldn't a Yukon Denali get a Duramax as well? or atleast the 2500/3500 Suburban/Yukon?

because its a 3/4 ton duramax truck with a denali package. tHE 2500 suburban doesnt share the same frame as the hd pickups do.

because only about 5 people would buy one......

Based on? The enormous price tag of the diesel option? Or what? I'm curious to know, what makes a Diesel SUV any less desirable than a CC/SB. Its not like the beds are used to haul anything in most of the trucks sold.

Excursion died off completely, they did good selling the diesel in them, until big SUV's where persecuted by liberal America. Suburbhan, Tahoe and there GMC counter parts, dont have the huge market they once enjoyed but I dont think there going anywhere anytime soon. I'm just curious as to why Ben would say they'd sell 5 of them. Only thing I can think of is the price tag. But if your going to point that finger, you could also use that for the pickup's as well. An emissons diesel might not sell to the SUV crowd because diesel still has a bad taste in many Americans mouths, but I think there would be a large segment of people jumping from a diesel truck to SUV. Ben also told me once that GM would never make a 3500 CC/SB becuase they would sell 5 trucks. I guess we'll find out...

where did I say that? I said they would never make a 4500 pickup truck, or something like that, but I dont remember ever saying no 3500 cc/sb's.

honestly do you think 95% of the people buying a denali give a shit what kind of engine is in it? No, they want it because they are upper class soccer moms who want it because they need to haul kids (and nothing more) but dont want something as plebian as a tahoe or burban.

Ill say it once, said it a million times, NONE OF YOU seem to fully understand what a ridiculously small % of the overall customer base we (as diesel "enthusiasts") are. 95% of the people out there with dmax's just use them as regular work trucks and dont even know diddly about diesel "performance".

I retract that statement my memory was close, but apparently not close enough, I dug up the thread, we were arguing about the marketability of a Sierra/Silverado with a modern drivetrain and a 80's chassis without all the modern dummy features. Some other guy in that thread was bashing the idea of a SWB 3500. It was the next generation may be IRS thread. circa 4/1/2008 you were pretty close on you guesstimation of the new HD platform minus the updated interior.

I wasnt refering to a Yukon Denali Duramax, I dont think theres a valid market for them. But Diesel SUV's in general I think there is a market for, but in now thinking about it, they would probably only steal customers that would have otherwise bought a HD pickup. So I guess I'll tell you your probably right again, now. It'd be interesting to see if GM has seriously looked into this in the past 5 years, and see the data on what the general public interest was in this. I will disagree with you again though on 95% of these trucks being used as work trucks, other than contractors, fleet vehicles, and a handful of entrepreneur, I dont see alot of people dropping $40-50k on these trucks and using them as work trucks. Its the excuse lots of people myself included have used to justify the price, but I bet the number of these trucks actually worked in much much lower than any of us think.

And I fully understand how small the "diesel enthusiast" market is.
