Hi all,

I just got EGT, boost and water temp gauges. I was wondering where are the best places for installing the sending units for them. It looks like the bottom of the down pipe from the turbo would be a good place for the EGT and fairly accessible. Is that OK? Is the aluminum tube that comes up from the intercooler a good place for the boost to come from? And where can I put the sending unit for the water temp? Is there a plug in the heads or block tat is suitable?

I also need a right side intercooler tube - the down tube. Are these the same over the first 3 generations? I've found them for '03 and '06 but no luck so far for my lly.

Thanks, Roy

Yea in lower rpms you can tell the prob on the mainfold is about 200 degrees hotter than comeing out of the Turbo

OK, I got the EGT and boost senders installed.

Still don't know where to put the water temp sender. Couldn't really see anywhere from the wheel well area on the right side.

Any one know of a good location?????

Why do you want a water temp gauge? I think an oil temp gauge would be a lot more useful/informative. That said, each side of the block has a plug that goes directly into the water jacket.

i thought that the best place for the EGT is on the back corner of the passenger manifold?, that way it is reading close to the temp on top of the cylinder

Josh, I am wanting a water temp gauge because of the known inaccuracies of the one in the cluster. Lly engines are known to run hotter and I want to know what its at with some degree of reliability.

Where exactly are these plugs to the water jacket? That would be the ideal location in my mind. Are they easily accessible?

Thanks for the response.

One is on the driver's side of the block toward the front. The other is on the passenger's side sort of behind the starter. I think they are painted yellow. On the driver's side there is a row of silver bolts that go into the oil galley. The coolant bolt is above those.

is there much difference in EGT readings from the different locations?
yes, like he said:

I have two EGT's one on each exhaust manifold...long story, first one was on the right side where my old Banks kit said to put it. The left side had a hole when I went to the BD manifold and I plugged the hole with another probe :D. There is a difference between the two sides, and the difference is large enough to be more than instrument error. IIRC, it is like 50 to 80 deg F difference, I only use the left one when logging, but is was interesting to see the difference.
