So I'm replacing everything up front on my truck. Got all the parts ready to order just not sure which pitman arm I need. Is there a way to tell if its 3 or 4 grove spline without taking it off? I know someone one here has to know.

I just read the other day (on here)that all HD trucks have the 3 groove. I cannot confirm this however, but I replaced one the other day on a 06 and it was 3 groove.

I am ordering the parts in the morning. I read somewhere that they are 3 grove I just want to be sure. Why would they offer both is what I don't understand.

95% of the trucks out there are 3 groove but the only way to tell is to pull the pitman arm

I've never heard of a 4-groove on a Duramax. You should be good to go.

I have. 05 chevy LLY at the shop I use to work at had one come in. Needed the typical idler/pitman arm but had a 4 groove steering box. Had a 3 groove ready to go for it but obviously it didn't work

The first picture is the old Saginaw/Delphi box used since the dinosaur age and on the D-max truck and several million other GM cars and trucks, the second picture is the 670,680 box transitioned somewhere around 2006-2007 my 2007 2500 NBS gasser had the 670 box which was in a TSB for lack of power assist. The 670 had the 3 bolt and the 680 had the 4 bolt at the input shaft. Concerning the alignment grove for the pitman arm I have no idea and still looking.
