New from OH. Sold my cummins and making the switch. Just don't know a lot about the dmax. What years to stay away from. The good and the bad. All advice is greatly appreciated.

Welcome aboard!

Glad to have another Ohioan, there are a lot of us on the board. Ohio is a very well represented state on the board.

Tell us where in Ohio you live and a bit about your truck (year, color, plans for the future, usage).

Also, glad to see that you came over from the Dark Side.:thumb:

Welcome! I think that others will agree each generation has its own pros and cons. For example the LB7 trucks have injector issues sometimes but you can find some without emissions crap on them. The 5 speed tranny is not as strong in stock form as the 6 speed. There are lots of variables. Let us know what you hope to do with the truck. And maybe a price range. It will make it easier for the pro's (not me) to help you out. Good luck finding your truck and enjoy!

Heres a quick rundown of most common probs:

LB7 (01-04.5) -
Cons: Prone to injector problems
Pros: Most dont have emissions crap, good power builders, plentiful

LLY (04.5-05) -
Cons: Can have overheating issues if pulling heavy on grades (seems to be hit and miss problem though...wouldnt be a deciding factor for me), Injector wiring harness problem (easy fix and no money involved)
Pros: Great all around truck, VVT turbo

LBZ and LLY (05-07.5) -
Cons: Can blow holes in pistons with power adders
Pros: Very powerful motor, last year before EPA killed mpg

LMM (07.5-10) -
Cons: DPF kills mpg, computer in truck can tell if you have ever input a power adder and warranty is automatically void from there on out
Pros: Powerful and NNBS

Allison 1000 (01-05) -
Cons: NSBU switch could go bad in earlier years (easy fix), 5 speed, must take out trans for a transgo kit if done all the way
Pros: Great trans

(06+) -
Cons: Nothing
Pros: 6 speed, little stronger built than previous model, transgo jr installs without taking out trans

Thats just a little rundown. All years are great really. Hey afterall its a Duramax either way right? Personally I would get an LLY or better just because those injectors scare me but thats ONLY my opinion. Im sure someone can add to that also. Hope it helps bud :thumb:

Great info man,
Im on the same boat as Nickb2787. I curently have a 07 6.0L ccsb silvy vmax and i need to get my hands on a duramax. The only problem is i've speent the last few years studyn/workn on ls series motors in fbodys and should have done the research on diesels first. But either way GM rocks!!! I'm going to start a new post tomorrow on what i'm looking for in a duramax and what i plan on doing with the truck and my price range.

Good luck to you Nickb2787 and hope you find one that fits your needs

Thanks Again 496BB for the pointers
