Just recently bought my first diesel, 2005 Chevy long bed 2500 LLy. Truck has about 140k miles on it and was stock when I got it. Over the past couple weeks I’ve put on 4” straight pipe exhaust, 3” MBRP down pipe, S&B knockoff turbo inlet mouthpiece, egr blocker plate with fingers stick, pcv reroute and have a FASS 150 lift pump kit with a sump kit to install. I also got a CTS2 programmer used for a good deal and I like the gauges and the tune was nice over stock but doesn’t seem to shift quite right so not sure if it’s programming or tranny slippage but seems to always want to short shift for lack of a better term.

You could say I’m not one to leave well enough alone haha. I’d love to a full egr delete but living in CA with smog test I need to keep the cooler assembly in there to appear as if everything is stock haha.

Welcome. And living in Ca does come with a lot of stipulations. Make sure your tuner allows the monitors to run for smog.

Edge tuning has definitely been known to be harsh on a trans as opposed to a quality tune through EFILive. The 5spd trans (01-05) doesn't like any power increase *typically* over the 90hp range but some will take less and some take more. I know my 240k mile LB7 with a bone stock trans doesn't care on my 75hp tune but anything above that it will slip going into 5th and set a limp code. Most of the time it runs on the 30hp economy setting.

Thanks. I currently have it on the performance setting, number 4. It has 5 total; stock, economy, towing, performance and extreme. So pretty much 3 and 4 would be the only two I use but I have tried towing yet and don’t want try extreme ad I know it will only do damage so I keep it in 4 which I believe is a 90hp gain?

Also just ordered a lil $30 boost leak detector as I though I heard some sounds when stabbing the gas and boost won’t go above 22. I searched around and it looks like it should be 25-30 ?

So does the sensor limit the boost to 22 or only reads up to 22? Either way how would I fix that?

Only reads to 22. You need to get the edge sensor to fix that.

That is correct. The EAS kit will be needed to read higher. If you don't already have an EGT probe then the best "bang for the buck" is the EAS Competition Kit (PN 98617) which runs $389.95 shipped and gives you an egt probe, pressure sensor (boost or whatever else you want to measure up to 100psi), and a temp sensor that is good for something like engine oil temp. If you buy the pieces individually then you end up spending more just to get less, its kind of Edge's way of steering people into different product groups.

Thanks. Yea I have the egt probe already. Dam so there’s no way to “unlock” the stock sensor to read passed 22 then? That edge probe is probably another $130 like the egt which is high enough to really question its worth haha

If you were to just add a pressure transducer you would have to purchase Edge PNs 98607 (EAS pressure sensor 0-100psig) and 98605 (EAS universal sensor input - 5V). 98605 is $167.95 and 98607 is $144.95. There is no other way to add them to the system.

You cannot "unlock" the MAP sensor to read higher unless you replace it with a different MAP sensor. Even then, that is a whole can of worms that offers no benefit.

You realistically have 3 options: 1) leave it as it is and understand that the truck makes more than 22psi of boost, 2) add the boost reading to the edge system, or 3) put in a mechanical boost gauge.

The kit I got with the egt probe is the expandable kit so I think that’s half of what you listed then but still, really need to think if it’s worth it at that price. Whole lotta other ways to spend that money haha

The EGT kit does not have anything that is included in my second post. In order to add a pressure reading to your current Edge EAS system you will need Edge PNs 98605 & 98607. What you have is the EAS starter kit and egt probe. PN 98605 will allow you to add 2x 0-5v sensors to your system and PN 98607 is the 0-5V Edge pressure transducer for 0-100psig.

Gotcha, thanks. Def not worth that much to me to see accurate boost. Little disappointing but as long as the truck is running right and there isn’t a boost issue I’m fine with not knowing exact psi I guess.

Thanks. I originally wanted a short bed but I didn’t want a big payment and the diesel market is crazy right now, at least in CA especially for LBZ thus my LLY haha, so I settled on the long bed. It’s a bit of a bitch in tight parking lots but I gotta say I like it now. Feels even more like a monster truck haha
