New Diesel engines vs 2006-2007 engine help

Everyone, I need some assistance. I'm going to buy myself a new to me duramax. from the research I've done so far it looks like the 2006 -2007.5 are the best all round engines pre emission controls.

As most know here in Ontario we love of salt on our roads in winter which ends up eating out trucks.

So far my search for a decent 2006-2007.5 trucks that aren't super rusty hasn't gone well.

Ideally I'd like to buy a 2015-2016 but I've heard horror stories about the new emission controls and the DEF.

Is the new engines with emission controls that bad? or, should I keep searching for a 2006 and possible look to Alberta or Southern USA to buy one?

Any thoughts, comments or rude remarks will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I would go with a newer truck. I haven’t seen much problems with the emissions other than the 11/12 def tanks.

Just find a truck you like, do some research on what problems you'll typically face depending on the generation Duramax you're looking at, and if you're confident you can repair what could go wrong, then buy it.

+1 on this. All vehicles will have problems, some more than others. It doesn’t matter what brand or model you have.

You'll get 100 different answers on what truck is best based on personal opinion. They all have their issues, some worse than others, but nothing that can't be fixed. I didn't let the emissions and cp4 scare me away from my 11, I just fixed the potential problems before they became real problems.

I may be insane. But if someone would trade me a clean ccsb or lb obs lb7 and a bit of boot I’d ditch this lly/lbz in a heartbeat. To each his own. Drive some and see what feels the best. They all have issues.

My old lb7 was awesome to be honest, the transmission in her held up alot better than my current one in my lly lol.. And she took alot more abuse

I love the old body style and the LB7 was such an easy engine to make power on and tune. With SAC injectors now available I would certainly be interested in one again

No reason to be afraid of a 15 or 16 LML, they are the best of the LML line up, least amount of known issues. I also like LMM as they hold up well and have updated body styling...

I loved my lb7! I beat the crap out of it for 200,000 miles and it took it like a champ. The ONLY reason I sold it was because I wanted a 4wd. I’m liking my Lbz I have now but I’m basically starting over again from scratch. I was waiting for my brother to sell his ‘08 but I needed a truck sooner than that was happening. If I could afford a newer truck I’d probably think about it though.

I love my lmm but I miss my cclb 01:( I should never have sold it. Was a rust free truck with 103k
