Hi I'm new here and I'm in need of some serious help! I've got a 2002 2500hd and it just shut off without warning. I had a p1093 code and a huge loss of power. It has 281k on it. I had it plugged in and its only making 250 psi of fuel pressuer to the rails. It just shut off on the road and wont fire back up at all. Thanks for any help!

Either the cp3 injection pumped failed and can't create pressure or the injectors are returning too much fuel or both. If it was my truck and I planned on keeping it for a long time I would buy a new cp3, fpr, injectors and return lines, and clean the high pressure rails.

So injectors would cause it to just shut down without warning? And have a no start situation? I've eliminated the filter head so no air leak. Capped the injectors 1 by 1 and still wouldn't fire. Can the CP3 be the culprit? Under a load it'll only make 4-9k psi max. It also falls on its face past 2,000 rpm.

I would change the FPR valve first. Not sure if you can bottle test an LB7? I have never tried. If the rail relief is stuck it will dump all your pressure. It's not common for an LB7 to fail but it does happen.

It has a race plug in it. And the FPR on the pump is new also. I even unplugged it to command max pressure and it still wouldn't fire.

I was thinking so but I dont wanna just throw 3,500 dollars around and it not be either at the end of the day.

the LB7 can only be bottle tested with the valve covers off or each bank with the covers on. you may want to test each bank of injectors and report the results here.

here is the values obtained from Lincoln Diesel

Fuel Specific Gravity Testing
Use a J 38641-B Diesel Fuel Quality Tester to measure the fuel specific gravity (API Rating). Follow the instructions on the tool to btain the proper temerpature-adjusted value. This information must be accurate for the proper diagnosis of the fuel system.

Fuel Injector Return Flow and Fuel Pressures
The fuel return from the fuel injectors to the tank will vary based on the API value of the fuel. Measure the Fuel API with the Diesel Fuel Quality Tester. For this reason the Fuel System Diagnosis-High Pressure Side values will vary for identifying a fuel injector or fuel pump concern. Use the following tables when referred to by the diagnostic. The first table is to be used during the initial diagnosis to identify the worst fuel injectors. After the fuel injectors that fail the first part of the test are replaced, the return flow from each fuel injector must be measured again. This is because the fuel system is returning less fuel to the tank, and thus the fuel pressure is higher during the retest. Failure to use the correct table may result in the replacement of good fuel injectors.

API Rating = Maximum Single Fuel Injector Return Flow = Maximum Fuel Injector Bank Return Flow
30-34 = 3 ml = 12 ml
35-39 = 4 ml = 16 ml
40-44 = 5 ml = 20 ml

Retesting Fuel Injector Return Flow Values
API Rating = Maximum Single Fuel Injector Return Flow = Maximum Fuel Injector Bank Return Flow = Fuel Pressure at cranking speed (FICM Disabled)
30-34 = 4 ml = 16 ml = 176-180 Mpa
35-39 = 5 ml = 20 ml = 134-178 Mpa
............................... 176-180 Mpa
40-44 = 5 ml = 20 ml = 114-135 Mpa

Thanks. Is there any specific way to just test the pump if its good or bad? I was thinking of pulling it making a jig putting it an a mill table and turning it at cranking rpms and pressure testing it.

So I gravitate fed a bottle to the pump and cranked for 15 seconds with the return line off the tank and got 150ml of fuel. Left bottle on and it has leaked an additional 120ml of fuel without cranking and will push alot it you squeeze the bottle. Sound like a failed CP3? Or can it leak past the injectors even if its gravity feed?

So the pump is just gone for sure? It leaked all the fuel outta the bottle (1 quart) in 2 hours and went to the return line to the fuel cooler (disconnected and put in bottle)

Shifted this into the LB7 section as it was more technical than intro.

BTW, welcome to the site.
