Allison 5sp: Need Tranny help!

I replaced the aluminum housing between the transmission and transfer case where the cross-member goes to the tranny. When I put it all back together, I only have drive. What have I done wrong?

Did you you do it in the truck or pull the trans?

That replacement must be done with the Trans removed from the vehicle and the transmission bell housing down ass up. A friend of mine bolted his on with the Trans still in the vehicle and it cost him money and time to get it right

DO NOT DRIVE THIS TRUCK.
When you remove the extension housing the gear train slides backwards. Clutches move back out of the splined ring gear. Torrington bearings slip out of place. This procedure can be done in the truck if you can stand it on its nose. You have done damage already. Keep it to a minimum and pull the trans as stated above.

This is tough to swallow I know. I am the friend that attempted this repair in the truck. Don't drive it or let Damion try to drive it... Haha. It's a bummer, but the trans needs to be pulled for this repair. Mike L. Is very knowledgable and can most likely answer any questions that you have. I pulled mine and took it to a trans shop. It was about a $800 mistake when I was said and done with parts and labor. I don't mean to get you down but you should know what your getting into.

I think people see bolts and figure they have the sockets and the ratchet. Should be a wam bam thank you ma'am type of in and out repair....and so many people only come to the forum AFTER something has already gone wrong and they need help.

Because enough guys at DP and others say they just did theres and it was fine. They neglect to mention that 6 months down the road they have a COSTLY ALLISON failure because of doing it in the truck.

the same reason people dont reseal the injector cups after doing injectors in a lb7 and they gain a cooling system issue down the road. But after all jimmys, sisters, cousins, fathers, brother in laws, grandpas, grandsons, doctor said they did it on their truck and its been fine since

I would have to agree with this. It's easy to look at it and think its a easy swap but little do they know what the future holds for them. Then they end here asking WTF happened.
