I am getting my CP3 reinstalled after it self destructed and left little pieces of metal everywhere. Do I ned to pull the injector rails and lines to clean them out, or is it okay not to? This is my first diesel, and first semi major repair on it. I don't want to screw up nd end up doing injectors next weekend. I also don't want to do more work than neccesary, or do more harm by disturbing everything than I am trying to fix.

Thanks

Yes pull all the fuel lines after the cp3 & both rails, flush the hell out of them with brake clean & compressed air, cap or bag them to keep clean until assembly time. I hate to tell you but if the failure was that bad, you may have already contaminated the injectors. How many miles are on them?

chances are when you pull the injector lines off rust and crud will fall into the tops of the injectors and you will end up having to pull the injectors also to clean them properly

I still think the damage is already done to the injectors if the pump failed enough to leave visible metal in the lines. I guess it all boils down to how lucky you are...

I'll let you know how lucky I end up being. My mother always said that if I didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all.
Got the pump back in. The old drive gear was welded (galled) onto the shaft. I had to cut it in two different spots. all the way through, before it would let go. Spent most of the time on this job sourcing the pump, trying to get the gear off, then trying to find a drive gear.
I started cleaning lines and did not find any debris in them and so left the rails alone, thinking I may do more harm than good. Reassembled, purged a lot of fuel through, until I came out with no bubbles, then cranked and started it up. Amazingly it started after only about twice the normal amount of cranking. It seems to run well. I drove it up the street and back (mile each way) after letting it warm up, and it seems to run well, no hesitation, and full power at all RPM. I guess we'll see over time if I screwed the pooch on the injectors.
Thanks for the help.
